Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlea Wyzard.
Hi Ashlea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I stand as a luminary in the world of beauty, bringing a wealth of experience and artistry to my craft. With 15 years of dedicated expertise, I’ve emerged as a licensed cosmetologist specializing in bridal, pageantry, television, film, and private clients.
At the age of 16, I stepped onto the runway, beginning a modeling career that not only shaped my presence in the fashion industry but also unveiled my deep passion for the art of beauty. My natural features and confident presence led me to become a sought-after model for renowned brands such as Pac Sun, Jovani, Nike, and more. By 18, I ventured into the glamorous world of pageantry, competing in the revered Miss South Carolina USA pageant system. That pivotal moment transformed not just my career—but also my purpose. It revealed my love for the art of hair and makeup and how beauty could empower others.
I’m known for blending traditional and contemporary elements, crafting looks that are both timeless and on-trend. My attention to detail and commitment to understanding each client’s unique vision set me apart. I don’t just apply makeup or style hair—I create personal statements that reflect each individual’s beauty.
I’ve had the honor of working with countless brides, celebrities, and individuals seeking that extra touch of glamour. My work has been featured in People Magazine and across various platforms, solidifying my reputation as a go-to artist for those who demand excellence.
Beyond client work, I’m passionate about education and empowerment. I lead training sessions and workshops for aspiring cosmetologists, sharing what I’ve learned and inspiring the next generation of beauty professionals to pursue excellence in their craft.
I’m not just a makeup artist and hairstylist—I’m a curator of confidence and an architect of self-expression.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey was anything but easy, but every step, challenge, and critique became a stepping stone toward something greater. I embraced the hardships, worked tirelessly, and turned every piece of feedback into fuel for growth. It was a path paved with resilience, driven by my unwavering belief in myself and the purpose God had destined for me.
I made countless sacrifices in pursuit of knowledge and experience. I left my job as a bank teller to work in a barbershop full of men, often making just $25 a day—simply because I was determined to explore every avenue and figure out my direction as a cosmetologist. Later, I took a position at an Aveda salon sweeping floors and shampooing clients for $250 a week. But I didn’t stop there. Within a year of leaving the bank, I had worked my way up to salon manager, earning a salary plus commission.
The following year, I achieved a major milestone: I purchased my dream car—all on my own.
What takes no talent? EFFORT.
I poured all my time into learning, growing, and sharpening my skill set. I made myself invaluable in every position I held by showing up with purpose, passion, and a relentless drive to be better.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist with years of experience in the beauty industry, specializing in bridal, pageantry, television, film, and private clientele. I’ve had the privilege of working with countless brides, celebrities, and individuals who seek that extra touch of glamour for their most important moments. My work has been featured in People Magazine and showcased across various platforms, which has been both humbling and affirming of the quality and intentionality I bring to my craft.
What truly sets me apart is my meticulous attention to detail and my deep commitment to making every client feel seen, valued, and confident. I believe beauty is both an art and a form of self-expression, and I approach each look I create with a thoughtful blend of creativity and precision. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all beauty; I take time to understand each person’s vision and bring it to life in a way that feels authentic and elevated.
Beyond my hands-on work, I’m passionate about education and mentorship. I conduct training sessions for aspiring cosmetologists, creating opportunities for them to refine their skills and grow in their artistry. Empowering others through knowledge-sharing is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.
I also launched my own business to create a platform where I could operate with autonomy, express my creativity fully, and achieve financial independence. Entrepreneurship has been a bold and fulfilling journey—it’s challenged me, stretched me, and ultimately allowed me to build a life and career I genuinely love. Most recently, I expanded into a new sector of my business focused on branding. This includes social media management, content creation, fashion styling for events, and of course, hair and makeup. It’s been an exciting evolution that allows me to offer a more holistic, elevated experience to my clients.
What I’m most proud of is not just the accolades or recognition, but the ability to create a career that aligns with my passion, empowers others, and continues to grow with purpose and integrity.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I was a sponge, always watching, listening, and ready to invest in myself. To gain knowledge and experience, I willingly took on projects for free. Every ‘yes’ to an opportunity was a step toward discovering what I loved the most. I wasn’t afraid to take risks because I knew that’s where growth and passion intersect.
The path was tough, but the satisfaction of saying ‘I did it’ made every hurdle worth it. I stand today as a testament to hard work, self-belief, and a willingness to take the unbeaten path.
A couple of things I wish I knew when starting out was to be patient and to give myself grace!
