Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From my beginnings with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, I felt a yearning for a more expressive outlet beyond code, leading me to transition into motion media design. Embracing this shift as a leap of faith, I found myself immersed in the captivating realm of design, where every project became an opportunity to push creative boundaries and craft compelling visual narratives.

Today, as a motion graphic designer, I cherish the winding path that led me here, marked by moments of uncertainty, triumph, and growth. I remain committed to evolving my craft and inspiring others on their creative journeys, eager to see where this path will lead next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Navigating the path to becoming a motion graphic designer hasn’t been without its challenges. I vividly recall my initial struggles upon entering my first design class, feeling overwhelmed by the transition from a non-art background. Faced with self-doubt, I hesitated to voice my thoughts, critique others’ work, or fully express myself.

However, with unwavering support from professors and classmates, I gradually found the courage to embrace my journey, building confidence and learning to embrace mistakes as part of the growth process. I am deeply grateful for the encouragement and guidance I received along the way, which played a pivotal role in shaping my journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a motion graphic designer specializing primarily in 2D animation, I’ve developed a distinct approach centered on conveying messages through visually captivating videos. Each project I undertake holds a profound sense of personal pride as I pour my energy into delivering the best possible outcome. However, one project that particularly stands out in my mind is the Hugo title sequence.

The Hugo title sequence was an exhilarating endeavor that seamlessly merged the worlds of cinematography and 2D animation. It marked my first foray into working with green screens, adding an extra layer of complexity to the creative process. Yet, despite the initial challenges, it was an immensely enjoyable experience, pushing the boundaries of my skills and imagination. The project embodied a sense of boundless creativity, inviting us to explore the realms of imagination and bring forth a tapestry of absurd yet captivating visuals.

What sets my approach apart from others is my ability to adapt quickly and intuitively understand the needs of clients and audiences alike. Before diving into any design, I make it a point to thoroughly consider the perspectives of everyone involved, whether it’s the client, the target audience, or my fellow collaborators. Ensuring that the final product not only meets but exceeds expectations is always my top priority.

Moreover, I place a strong emphasis on collaboration and feedback, recognizing the invaluable insights that diverse opinions bring to the table. Throughout the creative process, I actively seek out input from clients, colleagues, and even viewers, welcoming their thoughts and critiques as invaluable opportunities for growth and improvement.

In essence, my journey as a motion graphic designer has been defined by a commitment to excellence, a passion for creativity, and a dedication to pushing the boundaries of my craft. With each new project, my goal is to create work that resonates with audiences, leaving a lasting impression long after they’ve experienced it.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I owe an immense debt of gratitude to the mentors, supporters, and collaborators who have played pivotal roles in shaping my journey and contributing to the success of my work. Foremost among them is John Colette, whose mentorship has been instrumental in my growth as a designer. John instilled in us a mindset of embracing experimentation, urging us to never stifle our creativity and always think beyond conventional boundaries.

His unwavering motivation and support have been invaluable to me throughout my projects. Furthermore, I must extend my appreciation to Christine Fish, whose collaborative spirit and insightful advice have greatly enriched my experiences as a designer, fostering a mindset of collaboration and propelling me to new heights.

In addition to these mentors, I am deeply grateful for the guidance, encouragement, and support of my professors, instructors, family, friends, teammates, and clients. Their collective contributions have shaped my journey as a motion graphic designer, enabling me to continually push the boundaries of my creativity and achieve success in my endeavors. Their unwavering belief in my abilities has been indispensable, empowering me to overcome challenges and pursue my passion with confidence.
