Life & Work with BHAN of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to BHAN.

BHAN, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I emigrated from India with my family at 6 years old and attending school in Gwinnett County. Growing up I had alot of cultural influences from my own India culture along with music,WWE, and video games. In high is where I got my lifelong passion for music. I started DJing at 15 and continue till this day. DJing at many Raves,Concerts and Clubs all of North America. Including notably opening for the Migos at the Georgia Theater and DJing for Playboi Carti & Father at the Basement in East Atlanta Village. It wasn’t until 2017 that I started rapping. I have developed my own style of rapping niche based on my cultural and lifestyle influences. My biggest influence in life being fashion. In 2021 I launched my brand Veils Cstl. Inspired by rave and punk subcultures and the overall ethos of cultural subversion and antiestablishment sentiment. Creating everything from shorts, belts, and 1-1 airbrushed pieces of clothing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everybody is like a tree we all just grow. Has it been a struggle I can’t say that. I am blessed to enjoy the freedoms I enjoy. I cannot hope for anything besides the cards I was dealt wouldn’t trade my life for anyone elses.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a rapper,DJ, producer, and designer. Under the umbrella of my brand Veils Cstl I am building a movement. My artist name up until this point has been Autobhan however I am announcing that I am rebranding to just BHAN.

What sets me apart is my idiosyncratic approach. As an artist I am by definition one of a kind. All of my life experience has altered my brain to think in nonconventional ways. From sweaty raves in Montreal to Trapped out studios in Atlanta. I am punk as an Indian dude can get, yes feel that cringe in your bones but do mean it. I am a firm believer in the “collective unconscious’. Ideas are already floating in the ether you can unlock the 95% of the rest of your potential by using the subconscious mind.

My approach is to embrace this and use it in music and design philosophy. I take inspiration from artists like Marcel Duchamp, Asspizza, Gaspar Noe and the Safdi Brothers. I am very fond of Anti-war art movement like Dadaism.

You can see my design philosophy in action with my “Ohm Heartz” jorts (Jean Shorts) they featured muti-color/animal printed Ohm symbols. A Hindu religious symbol as opposed to the Christian Cross. This is a protest for my identity and bit of irreverent pastiche you know doing my part for the whole “great artists steal” bit. Tompe’loieml safety pin on the pocket area. An ode to the 1970’s punk movement, safety pins have been symbol of antiestablishment DIY ethos. In the same way this is my ripoff of muti-million dollar fashion houses like Acne studios. So here I am a brown man stealing designs from European fashion houses who all stole the damier print from the Indian Subcontinent. Protest.

I dropped a song on 10/10 by the same name “Ohm Heartz”. By now I think it’s easy to understand what i’m doing. Maybe something like NIGO hopefully hey BHAN is the same amount of letters right ?

How do you define success?
Wealth is family and respect…
