Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Ayala.
Hi Billy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have spent the better part of ten years making eyewear from recycled skateboards. A business I started a while ago here in Atlanta. But, during this break from making eyewear.
I decided to take a path that my brothers helped pave the way for me back in 2007 when my younger siblings and I started our first real business, tub and countertop resurfacing… Which they my brothers, Jacob and Kenny, have now grown into a multi-million dollar business, doing multi-family renovations. So as a big brother, I’m pretty proud of them for that accomplishment.
But now, big brothers gotta do what big brother do best! ….. take it to the next level!
(Healthy sibling competition 😉 )
I have a pretty strong background in business development, mainly in sales and marketing, and sales development. That stems from years of retail sales as a teen and as a young adult, corporate life. Which included setting goals, compiling metrics, preaching “best practices”, learning how to work with teams and solo. How to build teams and systems. The resume goes on and on.
Having an entrepreneurial spirit since I was a young skate rat, spray painting blank boards with our own name “SLAB” with my brothers, it just made sense to eventually work for myself. Which as I stated before, was with the eyewear business.
And now, Turn-Key Solution Contractors LLC.
I want to bring a new level of customer service and quality to those looking to save money and time when remodeling their homie bathtub and surround or shower.
I partnered with my friend Jordan Downing. Who prior to this, was delivering bread for a bread company in Cherokee County.
After a few conversations, it was clear that we could and should go into business together. His willingness to learn, and his attention to detail, and over the top customer service is a perfect mix for someone who’s 22 and wanting to be their own boss.
With his positive personality and business smarts, combined with my 15 years of experience in the industry working with my brothers, being able to service all of Georgia with the same care, respect, and professionalism as my siblings have done with their company, is something we will be able to add another workforce that’s truly out here for their customers.
A bit about resurfacing.
It’s a process where a tub, is sprayed using a specialized piece of spraying equipment, and after a few steps to prepare the tub, and the room that it’s being sprayed in, the tub is resurfaced.
Resurfacing paint uses a marine epoxy, similar to the epoxy paint used on the bottom of ships. So its sole purpose is to be submerged underwater. And it offers ease of care.
When done properly by professionals, not skipping steps or using inferior products, resurfaced tubs can last up to 10 years or longer, before needing any sort of touching up.
This process is great for home flippers, rental homes, rv homes, cabin homes, really anywhere that has a tub and needs a new fresh look when cleaning and scrubbing isn’t enough.
We are fully insured and licensed to do business in the state of Georgia!
We are 5-star rated on Facebook and BBB!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business even if it’s not your first, always has its own challenges. But having patients, and making “chess moves” as my friend T would say, has always helped me avoid a lot of pitfalls that many new business owners encounter. Currently, my biggest challenge is answering everyone’s messages! The outpouring of support has been great! So please bear with us as we get to everyone asking for quotes!
And learning a new technical skill, and teaching it to others is also a challenge in itself. But the guys have been going great and it shows in our reviews, and when our client’s jaws hit the ground when they see how those old tub turns out sparkling new!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Me and my friend created the concept for recycling a skateboard and making it into a pair of sunglasses. After the forced sale of the first company, I started my own brand. Which is a limited amount of frames per year. Most recently, I got the chance to get some skateboards from Weeman, actor/skater from the movies “Jackass”. Flew out to California to hand deliver his custom frames made from his board. So that was sic! And there’s a few, few, other notable folks. 😉
What does success mean to you?
Accomplishing your goals.
Whatever that goal maybe.
As long as it’s not harmful to anyone of course.
But a goal is a dream, that’s defined by action, and the belief that it will work, and it usually does.
That to me, defines success. 🙂
