Life & Work with Brandon Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Jones.

Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Brandon Jones to the social change world, and I am also known as Luze Skrew to the music world. I was born and raised in the south in small country town by the name of Marshallville, Ga. I am currently in school, working for myself as an entrepreneur and a community and education advocate. Skrews4Life is my human services brand and Opposite Gang Entertainment is my music brand record label. I started writing poetry when I was younger and eventually, it transitioned into writing music. I picked up the passion for music and artistically expressing myself early and gravitated towards it more once I started participating in things at the church I went to. I eventually got into gospel rapping where I would take the hottest songs that were on the radio, download the beats from Limewire and make a gospel rap about it. My grandmother always called me “preacher man” because I was always vocal, a leader, and I was always for the collective good of the people I was around. This journey stopped due to us moving to another church due to some conflict that was going on. This killed the gospel rap for me, in addition to me seeing my father go to prison for a few years at the same time, this started grooming my music in a different way that was more rooted from pain, betrayal, and my later adolescence to adulthood stories.

I moved from my hometown when I was 19 to the Atlanta area, and this is where I evolved into the person I am today. This was a transition from a population of 1000 people to 6.6 million people, which by far is one of the biggest and most challenging things I have had to overcome. I went through legal troubles several times trying to navigate and find my way here, became homeless for a period of time while serving a concurrent probationary term, working multiple jobs inconsistently, but I always found time to get in the studio during the midst of all of this.

After I ended up quitting the last job I had and deciding to pursue entrepreneurship, I got back in school, started earning certifications, one in particular which is my life coaching certification is what started my journey of professional development and becoming a businessman. With me pursuing my degree in psychology, gaining certification, and having life experiences that meshed with my vision of social change, this is what made me start Skrews4Life, which is a life coaching organization that helps individuals rewire neurotic mental models to close the gap between their entire life and their desired life. And this was my vision I have been working to manifest for so many years now, and now I have everything set up the way I want and this is how I got to where I am today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, but it has been a fruitful journey. Coming from a small population, one of the main struggles was equitable resources and opportunities. Life’s unfortunate tragedies and situations that were out of my control, not having the proper support system, not having someone to advocate for me and people that come from where I come from. Adjusting to a new city and being forced to interact with so many different people. Keeping a strong mentality was a struggle at times, but this is where my resilience was reinforced. Learning new skills like soft skills in a professional environment, and learning that Atlanta is a place where people come to change their life and that I would be by myself becoming an example of something I never got to observe for myself at a younger age. Financial literacy struggles, learning credit, business credit, and how to leverage myself into position, and releasing the working harder mentality and changing it into working smarter.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an independent artist and producer. I am working on a new project which will be a full mixtape. I have my own recording studio, I record all of my music and mix it. I specialize in Hip/Hop and Rap music and I am proud of my new song “One Day”, my latest single release which aired on 107.9 with Dj Holiday and RadioGodStu, and this is a proud moment for me because I never had anyone in my family make a song that aired on the radio.

On the opposite spectrum of my professional career, this is the scope of my community portfolio as a human services practitioner studying in psychology. I am an independent contractor as a Certified Professional Life & Spirituality Coach, Mentor, Motivational Speaker, and Professional Development Consultant. As a human services practitioner, my specialized approach is a holistic approach, supported by my certifications in areas such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. In this field, I am known for my signature coaching and professional development programs titled “Mental Hygiene” where I help organizations and school educators look into the ingredients of their behavior that stems from negative thought patterns that cause an odor to the environment they are in. I am most proud of my company being so versatile in ways that will empower and restore my community in essential and intangible ways.

What sets me apart is that no one has created the type of lane I have created for myself. My goal as an artist was to be the artist that changed the narrative of only being known for music and only doing community work after the fame. I wanted to be known for my community work outside of being an artist. Our society always labels us by one thing, it’s not the narrative of society to be passionate and known for more than one thing, and that’s what sets me apart from any other artist. No artist has come into the music industry already having a platform that is rooted in the community and is not built off of entertainment and gratification but with life skills, multiple community resources, and advocacy.
