Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Rashad Clayvon
Hi Brandon Rashad, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Throughout my life, I’ve always been a creative person. I was the bright kid that was a lazy student, because traditional schooling wouldn’t hold my attention well enough. I would tend to act out, until my parents were able to find classes, programs, and sports that were able to challenge my mind. I also naturally found a way to challenge myself by falling in love with art. Doodling turned into a love for drawing more complex things, and a fascination with the music industry becoming more digital turned into a love for creating music.
That need to be challenged is still within me today, as I’m now running a company and tackling a number of different ventures. After finishing school, I worked for 10 years in the control systems engineering field with a number of different companies, but then, with the help of my dad, started an LLC back in March of 2021, and have been working for myself ever since. I split my time between 1) being an active dad, and keeping my kids involved in sports, arts and other extracurricular activities; 2) producing music, working with indie artists, and diving head first into the music industry; and 3) completing work with corporate clients by supporting them with their controls engineering projects. And in between it all, being an outdoor enthusiast keeps me grounded.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. I always felt stagnant at my jobs and always had a feeling that I was meant to do something more, but it took years and years to muster up the courage to actually take a leap of faith and leave a stable career for entrepreneurship. Especially since the societal norm is to find a career that pays well enough, and then stay there the rest of your life, or until retirement. That idea never sat well with me, though, so I chose to aim for something more fulfilling that aligned with my purpose. It’s an everyday struggle, as I have to constantly choose between taking calculated risks for the future, but then also making sound decisions that will keep my family secure in the present. I have to ignore the naysayers, while trusting in my own vision and finding like-minded people to align with. It’s a struggle that I willingly take head on, though, because pursuing something greater and trying to create my own path is what brings me joy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I honestly never know how to answer someone when they ask me what I do for work. I’m somewhere in the middle between being a music producer and a control systems engineer. Somewhere between the societal idea of the “starving artist,” and a freelance engineer and technical consultant. All it really is, though, is a continued effort to make a living off of just being myself, instead of having a particular job title.
What really sets me apart is my creativity and strong sense of spirituality. I feel like that gives me the courage to really go for what I believe in, and also allows me to connect with people on a human level.
What I’m most proud of is my children. They’re truly good-hearted, smart, and caring, and I can already recognize that they’re going to be great people and spread positivity in the world. My wife and I, along with everyone in the extended family that plays an important role in our kids’ lives, have worked hard to instill good values in them, and it shows.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Always follow your gut, and trust that inner voice.
