Life & Work with Brenda Usher of Brookhaven, Ga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Usher.

Hi Brenda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From Upstate New York to Atlanta: A Journey of Purpose, Perseverance, and Empowerment

Some people follow a path. Others create one. For Brenda, the journey from upstate New York to Atlanta wasn’t just about changing zip codes — it was about transforming her life and uncovering her purpose.

Growing up in an area where “survival of the fittest” was more than just a phrase, Brenda learned early on the value of grit, determination, and self-belief. Those lessons carried her far — all the way to a successful 12-year career with AT&T, where she sold large-scale network solutions to medium and enterprise-level businesses.

But Brenda’s impact at AT&T extended far beyond sales. As the CEO of one of the company’s largest Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), she helped lead initiatives that connected the corporation to the community — driving outreach, professional development, and leadership growth among its members. It was there that she uncovered her true calling: empowering others to reach their full potential.

“I realized that my soul purpose in life is to inspire and empower people through my story,” Brenda shares. “Everyone has greatness within them — sometimes they just need someone to help them see it.”

That purpose led her to take a leap of faith in 2018, leaving corporate life behind and stepping into real estate. Since then, she’s not only built her own thriving business but has also become a driving force behind Keller Williams Peachtree Road’s productivity coaching program. Through mentorship, strategy, and accountability, Brenda helps new agents lay the foundation for successful, sustainable real estate careers.

Today, she continues to blend her business acumen, leadership experience, and passion for personal growth to help others succeed — whether they’re buying their first home or launching their real estate careers. Her story is proof that with courage, vision, and heart, you can create success on your own terms — and help others do the same.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The Road Isn’t Always Smooth — But It’s Always Worth It

Following your purpose in life isn’t a straight path. It’s rarely smooth, and it’s never without obstacles. For Brenda, that truth has been both a test and a testament to her strength.

Growing up in upstate New York, life came with challenges that required grit and perseverance. From an early age, Brenda learned how to push through adversity — but even as she achieved success in her career and leadership, she discovered that some battles come from within.

“Overcoming low self-esteem is an ongoing journey,” she shares. “It’s something I’ve had to face head-on, and I’ve learned that affirmations and self-love aren’t optional — they’re essential.”

That mindset became even more critical this past year when Brenda faced one of her toughest challenges yet — a breast cancer diagnosis. The road through treatment, radiation, and the lingering nerve damage tested her physically, mentally, and emotionally. Yet, through it all, she held onto her faith and the lessons that shaped her.

“I was raised to keep showing up — no matter what — but I also had to learn that taking care of myself isn’t weakness, it’s wisdom,” Brenda says. “Even when I didn’t feel strong, God gave me the strength to take one more step.”

Today, Brenda continues to walk her path with courage and grace — not because it’s easy, but because she knows her purpose is bigger than the pain. Her journey is a reminder that success isn’t defined by how smooth the road is, but by the strength it takes to keep walking it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Empowering Agents to Build Businesses and Believe in Themselves

In my work today, I wear two hats that align perfectly with my purpose: I’m a Realtor and the Director of Productivity Coaching at Keller Williams Peachtree Road. I help new and developing agents build profitable, sustainable real estate businesses — and more importantly, the confidence and mindset to match.

My specialty is growth — not just in numbers, but in people. I’m known for helping agents move from uncertainty to action, from hesitation to momentum. Whether it’s through one-on-one coaching, training classes, or accountability programs, my goal is always the same: to empower each person to see what’s possible for them and then give them the tools and strategy to achieve it.

What I’m most proud of isn’t just the production numbers or the success stories (though there are plenty of those!). It’s watching someone go from doubting themselves to standing tall in their business — closing deals, leading clients with confidence, and finally believing they can do it. That transformation is everything to me.

What sets me apart is my approach. I don’t just coach skills; I coach people. My background in corporate leadership taught me how to drive performance, but my purpose drives me to connect on a deeper level. I’ve walked through challenges — personally and professionally — and that gives me a perspective rooted in both compassion and accountability. I believe in showing up real, honest, and present.

At the end of the day, I’m not just helping agents sell homes — I’m helping them build lives they’re proud of.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The Books That Shaped My Mindset

I’ve always believed that growth starts with feeding your mind the right things. A few books have had a powerful impact on my journey — both personally and professionally.

Relentless by Tim Grover taught me the mindset of champions — how to push past limits, stay disciplined, and refuse to settle for average.
Multipliers by Liz Wiseman showed me the power of leadership that brings out the best in others — a lesson I carry into every coaching relationship.
Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins (often called Power Within) reminded me that lasting change comes from mastering your mindset and your emotions.
And Exactly What to Say by Phil M. Jones sharpened my communication skills — an essential tool in both real estate and coaching.

These books reinforced what I believe at my core: that success starts with mindset, grows through action, and multiplies when you help others rise with you.
