Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Boyd.
Hi Brianna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
D&B Farm and Livestock is a mother-daughter farming duo that officially began in 2019. Diane grew up on the beautiful and environmentally diverse island of Jamaica, so she was no stranger to the passion of all things nature. Brianna followed in her footsteps and grew to love the joys of the outdoors and gardening.
As a child, Brianna would spend the summers with her mother tending to their small garden in the Bronx. When they moved to Georgia, they continued to learn and grow. Brianna wanted to expand her knowledge in agriculture so she began working with sheep and chickens. She quickly fell in love with all things agriculture and knew it was something she wanted to do full-time. As their small backyard garden began expanding, Diane and Brianna realized it was their calling to provide natural pesticide-free food to their community- thus D&B Farm was born. We now grow on a 10-acre farm that we lease in Snellville, GA.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been an easy road. We have had both plants and animals perish as we learned. Each day revealed new ways to help out farm flourish. We also had a lot of problems finding a farm close enough to be able to logically be there every day.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in produce as well as goats. We are Certified Naturally Grown. We do not use any synthetic fertilizers, insecticides, or fungicides. We grow as close with nature as possible hence our motto “Growing within the melody of nature”.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is going to the nursery every summer and picking out plants for our small garden in the Bronx.
