Life & Work with Dope Chris Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dope Chris Taylor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So I always wanted to be a rap artist when I was an adolescent. Different parts of my family has been in the music industry as far as managers, artists, and musicians. I grew up singing in the church choir. I was a percussionist for ten years. Plus my mom would always rhyme words while I was growing up. After I was finished being a performing percussionist, I was lost trying to figure out who I was. A friend invited me over to create some instrumentals at his house. After that, I decided to chase that adolescent dream again.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely has not been smooth haha. The struggles include setting realistic expectations for myself. I couldn’t focus on the results because I would drive myself crazy. I had to focus on what can I control. I also had to allow myself time to grow as an artist as well as a brand. There’s a lot of other stuff too, such as content creation, marketing, consistency, etc. But allowing myself to grow at a rate of sustainable success has been the biggest lesson to me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a music artist who specializes in rap. My artist’s name is Dope Chris Taylor. I created a series called Therapy Thursday that shows me being vulnerable as well as experimenting with different styles. The work I’m most proud of is my latest release, The Lost Compass. I was way learning about life, growing, and just enjoying the process of an upcoming music artist. What sets me apart from others? Good question. Probably the outside music influences that go into my music. I grew up with Rap, R&B, and Gospel. Now I go seek out different genres and learn how they go about creating and bringing it back to Rap. From Classical music, Jazz, Folk, rock, etc. If it’s Good Music, then I’m down to listen to it.

What matters most to you? Why?
Being an example of someone who believed in themselves, regardless if they feel like they’re “late” into chasing their dreams. I always felt like a late bloomer. I don’t want no one to feel like their too old to fulfill their heart with their passion.
