Life & Work with Clarinda Steward, RN, CCRN of Macon, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clarinda Steward, RN, CCRN.

Hi Clarinda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey started with a deep passion for caring for others and a desire to make a difference beyond the bedside. As a registered nurse, I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse settings, from hospital ICUs and post-anesthesia care units to travel nursing assignments across different states. I’ve been a nurse since 2001. I started as an LPN, then obtained RN licensure and trained in the critical care setting. Each experience strengthened not only my clinical skills but also my understanding of what nurses truly need to thrive: confidence, competence, and community.

Over time, and especially during the start of the Covid epidemic, I noticed how many nurses and nursing students struggled with exam preparation, self-doubt, and finding the right support system. That inspired me to create Travel Nurse City Tutoring and Services (TNC), a space where aspiring and practicing nurses could receive high-quality tutoring, mentorship, and motivation rooted in real-world experiences and faith-based encouragement. I wanted the hummingbird incorporated into the logo for my tutoring business as a powerful symbol representing love and happiness, change and resilience, adaptability and growth, and hope and healing. Just like the hummingbird’s ability to travel great distances with strength and grace, TNC Travel Nurse City Tutoring and Services is committed to bringing care, support, and learning wherever it’s needed. This emblem reflects the organization’s spirit of compassion, dedication to positive change, and unwavering support for growth and well-being in every community it serves.

Today, I’m grateful to serve both as a nurse and an educator — helping students pass the NCLEX, prepare for specialty exams like the adult CCRN, and grow into skilled, purpose-driven professionals. My journey has been one of service, perseverance, and faith, and it’s what continues to drive everything I do through TNC – Tutoring and Services.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but every challenge has helped shape who I am today. Balancing the demands of nursing, travel assignments, tutoring, and pursuing my advanced degree hasn’t always been easy. There were seasons of exhaustion, doubt, and even moments when I questioned whether I could keep all the pieces together.

Starting Travel Nurse City Tutoring and Services also came with its own set of struggles — learning how to build a business, reaching students effectively, managing time between shifts and teaching. But through every obstacle, my faith kept me grounded. I learned to lean on God’s strength, stay consistent, and trust that the work I was doing had purpose.

Those struggles have made me more empathetic toward the students and nurses I serve. I know what it’s like to be tired, uncertain, and still push through. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others find clarity, confidence, and balance on their own journey.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Through Travel Nurse City Tutoring and Services (TNC), I specialize in helping nursing students and working nurses build confidence, master complex material, and successfully pass critical exams like the NCLEX and adult CCRN. My background as a critical care and travel nurse allows me to bridge the gap between theory and real-life application, bringing clinical insight, mentorship, and motivation together in every session.

I’m most proud of the students who come to me uncertain or struggling, and leave empowered, passing their boards, advancing their careers, and walking in their purpose. Each success story reminds me why I started this. It’s more than tutoring; it’s transformation.

What truly sets TNC apart is the personalized, faith-grounded approach I take. I don’t just teach content — I nurture confidence, resilience, and critical thinking. I meet each student where they are, combining evidence-based strategies, spiritual encouragement with a “motivation for today” incorporated in each session. With real-world nursing experience woven throughout, each lesson becomes a holistic learning experience designed to strengthen both knowledge and mindset.

My goal is not only to help nurses pass exams, but to help them become excellent, compassionate, and purpose-driven professionals who will make an impact wherever they go.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was using my imagination to create little worlds. I would play school and write lessons on the wall until my aunt bought me a real chalkboard. I also pretended to run a radio station and wrote books, imagining myself as a great author and speaker. Looking back, I see how those moments revealed the passions already planted within me—teaching, storytelling, and sharing knowledge. These qualities have continued to grow throughout my life, often guiding me even when I didn’t realize it.
