Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Cuellar.
Hi Daisy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Thank you VoyageAtl for taking the opportunity to interview me, I’m humbled and grateful. It all started in December 2019 after Graduating from Kennesaw State before Covid escalated and affected a few economically and so not long after that I was questioning myself in ways that I never thought I would, you know the typical questions “What am I doing with my life?” I went to school for what?’ and lastly I should be doing more and farther than feeling insufficient.
I was riding with my sister and we were brainstorming ways to generate additional income because life gets hard and and the only way to grow is taking risks. We were born in Miami Florida and my parents moved us up to Valdosta, GA.
A small town of where not too many opportunities presented itself and not much room to grow and expand. It’s nice when it comes to retirement or raising children but I’m not there yet.
I’m not getting younger and want to lead by example for my younger siblings and of course the nieces and nephews. I was scared for sure and nervous but as one of my professors once said” convert those nerves into positive energy “
Easier said than done I always felt, but it’s possible. It takes patience and positive mental pep talks.
I took the risk of not having a clue what I was getting myself into with the “Photobooth industry “. I utilized a few techniques that I obtained from my marketing and sales classes in KSU and it helped me tremendously. I take mental notes all the time when I’m out there rendering booth services.
I pay attention to my 5 pillars of business
1- People/customers
2- Products – because quality over quantity…
3- Process – because you cannot offer a service in any growing market with poor customer service and time management.
4- Profit/negotiating…..you have to value your time and work ethic.
5- Permanence – I want to be known and recognized for my authenticity not just another booth vendor.
I began in October 2020 and my first event was at La Chingada sports bar. Located in Marietta GA. A bar? It’s a great way to showcase Fiestafelizbooth to everyone whose having a good time and out of their comfort zone. It sort of took off after that, with consistent marketing. I’ve had the opportunity to render services for all types of events: Weddings, corporate, baby showers, and sweet 15. Grand openings and more. It’s truly a blessing and it’s fun for sure.
I’ve learned a lot from when I started until now. It took about a solid 6-12 months before getting that return on investment. It may seem like a long time but when you’re out there having fun and surrounded by people having fun with your booth, it’s worth the wait.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been surprisingly fair thus far.
I have had a few downtime moments, where I was not booking but that’s ok.
Expect that to happen but look at it as a break to replenish.
Oh and do not let others discourage you! You will come across those negative nancy, never let their fear rub off on you.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When I’m not working with Fiestafelizbooth, I work in commercial finance… shoutout to e-Capital ….I’m fairly new here as I started this position in July of 2021 and was I nervous as usual lol. I am now a collateral analyst.
We review collateral to secure large loans and serve as point people for our borrowers, we review, analyze, and reconcile documentation to verify their collateral value.
I’m known for being super empathetic giving and funny.
My proud moments were graduating KSU for sure and being a First Generation college graduate .and most definitely leaving Valdosta, GA. I was nervous as hell not knowing what life would bring. I’m just glad that God stood by me and gave me confidence and courage.
What sets me apart from others is my personal life story with growth and all of its obstacles. It was not always beautiful. My parents divorced when I was 13 and not long after that, I lost my only brother at the age of 3. That’s why I strive for more and have a lot of love to give. Peace, happiness and love is key. That’s why I’ve grown to love the booth field a lot more than I expected, it’s all of that.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Causal conversation will lead up to that.
Stay true to yourself and be honest always.
You’d be surprised of the people you attract.
