Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Hughes.
Hi Danielle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for cameras and the post-production process ever since I was about ten years old. My Aunt bought me my first camera when I was 11. When I got to high school, I took a Photography class to learn more about the post-production side of things. Fast forward to college, I majored in Broadcasting with an emphasis in Production. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in 2020. Since then I went full-time with the brand Danielle Hughes Productions. I have been blessed enough to not only be acknowledged by both Beyoncé and her mother, Tina Lawson, but also to work with individuals such as Vivica A. Fox, G Herbo, and more. I recently dropped Photography from the list of services offered by DH Productions, making DH Productions a Videography/Cinematography based brand. I offer a wide spread of video services such as promo videos/branding commercials, tour/concert videography, event recap videos, mini-documentaries, and more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has most definitely not been all peaches and cream. I have still not yet reached every goal I set for myself, but I know in due time I will. As long as the grind and the hungriness for success does not stop. I am very fortunate and blessed to have the amount of success that I have had at such a young age. I’m only 23 and I have accomplished so much and made so many connections in the process. I am forever grateful for my struggles as they made me go harder with my business today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Filmmaker and Creative Director. I specialize in commercial branding, tour/concert videography, pregnancy announcements, event recaps, mini-documentaries, and so much more! Anything you can think of that may need a video, DH Productions has you covered! I’m most proud of the connections and clientele I’ve built just by being me and letting that show through my work. I treat every video as if it is a major project, no matter how big or small. Everything is a major production in my eyes!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m the type of person who hates “what ifs.” So that makes me have no other choice than to be a risk taker. I’ve used my last on certain videos with the hope and prayer that it will get the feedback and attention that I want it to. One video in particular was the promo video I filmed for the Ivy Park “Ivytopia” collection. I was in Santa Cruz, CA for about three weeks and all I had was a beach and my camera equipment… So I thought. I got out to the beach and I broke my camera and my drone… well the waves broke my camera and drone. There was a jacket apart of the Ivytopia collection, the waves snatched the jacket clean out my hands. I went in to grab it and the waves hit my camera and drone. The jacket got saved nonetheless, but at the cost of my equipment. This was all before the shoot even started, luckily I was the one who was also the model. So as a true artist and creator, I came up with an immediate game plan. I propped my phone up and turned on the 4K video option and shot the entire video on my phone. This was a 2-day shoot. One day was swimwear and the next day was the athletic wear. The commercial was extremely successful and got the attention of the Ivy Park team and page. While this was a risk in itself, it was also a major lesson… stay away from the waves, haha.
