Today we’d like to introduce you to Daphne Smith.

Hi Daphne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well, I am a wife, mother and grandmother who always dealt with sensitive skin. My skin would be irritated or swollen from an allergic reaction from something. SmithButter was birthed when my sister and I were making body butter using ingredients we had in our kitchen. I started to realize that the butters we were making worked great for my skin. I developed a passion for making more than just butters. I started making products for my family and friends. Until one day, my daughter said, “You need to make this a business. You have amazing products and everybody loves them”. She said we should call your products “SmithButter”. I am still making all of my products in my kitchen, as well as packing and labeling.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In starting SmithButter, like most small businesses we had several challenges. SmithButter was started right before the pandemic hit. There were financial challenges in getting my business off the ground and keeping it thriving. Being new in the skincare business, it was hard trying to keep a good repeat customer base, who would support and see my vision. Learning time management was another challenge in incorporating my personal lifestyle, church, work, and business. At times, there were physical challenges making all of my products myself to ensure the quality that my customers would expect and enjoy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Event Coordinator and a Front Office Administrator for my community homeowners association for the last 13 years. My job is to assist residents and others with any concerns in dealing with the association. I am best known for organizing major events in our community. I also have been known to have a wealth of knowledge concerning the association and the willingness to train others within the office. The qualities that set me apart from others are my dedication, loyalty, and longevity in the workplace.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, my goals for SmithButter are to have several SmithButter stores, mobile store, a manufacturing company, and to be on the shelves of several retail giants. As well as an online presence on multiply platforms.
