Life & Work with Darrell Kemp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrell Kemp.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started out like any other kid growing up, a thought that morphed into a dream that felt far-fetched. Because they were inspired by someone or something that made them believe they could do exactly what they saw. I knew from an early age that I wanted to entertain people, rather that was on a tv or in a high-intensity sport. As I continued to get older, I knew more and more about what I wanted to do but didn’t know where to start. In high school I auditioned for my school’s theater play after being pushed from my teacher/coach Ms. Purvis, I landed a role on cast A and I was shocked that I was able to land a spot in a theater play with no experience, no training like no anything. After doing my school’s play in front of my peers, it gave me the confidence to keep on. Once I graduated, I was determined to make this into my career and not a job.

When I moved to Atlanta, I didn’t have any agent or any type of guidance to help me take my first step in this industry. So I looked up some casting calls and most was extra work. I knew if I do some extra work, I’ll be able to network and gain the experience I needed to get started. Being a part of multiple major productions, it sharpened my mindset to drill my way into this business. You would think after two years I would have everything in my disposal to succeed to the highest level but I didn’t and things went south for me and I had to move back to my hometown with my mom. Yeah, I was disappointed but I was more eager to land back on my feet to put myself into a better position. It took me about two years to get back into Atlanta and orchestrate my game plan for a bigger comeback. Which I was able to do and I can proudly say five years in I’m doing better than the last time I was here. Yes, there were obstacles I had to overcome in order to be where I’m at now. In no shape or form, I’m settling where I’m at now because I still haven’t accomplished my dream and if you ask me I’m still a long way from it. If people knew it was okay to fail before you succeed, I think we’ll see a better percentage of dreams breathing instead of dying out. Hard Work Makes Perfect is my motto for everything I do. A disciplined mind, work ethic, and letting god be first. There’s nothing you can’t achieve in the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No smooth roads but failure, anxiety and depression.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work as security, I specialize in mastering my craft, most proud of is my determination to never let things outside my control dictate my dream is the distance I’ll go just to see myself in a position to accomplish my dream.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
By hitting me in my DMs, emails, or reach my personal number.

You can support by just watching, reposting, and giving feedback on all of my projects I do.
