Life & Work with Darryl Rogers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Rogers.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love of the arts comes from my father, who I can recall as a child, making drawings and little pieces of art out of wood. However, I didn’t pick up my first professional camera until my freshman year of high school. Prior to that, I had always utilized the single click cameras to snap photos of family and friends. The first time I stepped into a darkroom and developed a contact sheet of my very own photographs I knew I was in love with this industry. Seeing these moments in time, captured in the various frames, sparked my passion for photography. Today, I love portrait and nature photography because you can tell some of the most interesting stories through those images.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think whenever you’re creating art, it can be a challenging road because sometimes it flows easily, but other times it can be quite the challenge. Much like many artists, sometimes I can get lost in my own head about producing the perfect image. When I have those moments where my artistic juices are really flowing I can stay up creating for hours; but when it feels like the art isn’t coming as natural I have to put my camera down and step away to reignite my creative spark. It’s important to me to create meaningful images that will put a smile on the faces of my clients.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a freelance photographer who specializes in portrait and nature photography. I have been taking portraits for several years, however, I have recently expanded into more images in nature. When it comes to my craft, I am most proud of my ability to connect with people. Throughout the years I have found that most people are not comfortable in front of the camera, but if you have built the rapport with your subject you can alleviate their nerves and the jitters will melt away. One thing that I believe sets me apart from others in the field is my own unique way of seeing the beauty in every person or place.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Here are a few fun facts about me: I have practiced yoga and meditation for over 15 years and have been vegan for 7 years! In my downtime, I love spending quality time with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading murder mysteries and watching way too much tv, like most.
