Today we’d like to introduce you to Deepak Aaron.
Hi Deepak, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My goal is to become a Grandmaster at chess. My grandfather is Manual Aaron, India’s first International Master and 9-time Indian champion. So I’ve been playing chess since I was a kid and have been rising up the ranks in chess. Through losing, learning, and persistence I’ve gotten to where I am today. Nothing beats working hard, believing in yourself, and having good people around you in whichever craft you pursue!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have definitely been roadblocks. In middle school, I got stuck before becoming National Master. It took a lot of losing, but at some point, I started beating people who I hadn’t beat before and that gave me enough confidence to get to the next level.
After college, I got stuck trying to become an International Master(the step below Grandmaster). I started training with my peers regularly as well as training in boxing and jiu-jitsu. The lessons I learnt from other disciplines helped me get to the next level.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In chess and everything else I do I like to attack at a high pace but not go crazy. I hate boring, and I always want to create something different from everyone else.
I’m most proud of not fearing failure and being willing to try anything not worry about what other people think. If I like something, if I enjoy something then I’m gonna do it and become better at it.
What sets me apart from others is I’m contagiously optimistic, and I excel at many different things. I take lessons from different crafts to help across crafts!
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is making the basketball team in 10th grade. After getting cut throughout middle school and 9th grade, I started running, going to the gym, and waking up early. After all the work I made the basketball team in 10th grade and still love basketball to this day!
