Life & Work with Deja Monét

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja Monét.

Hi Deja, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started as a child. At four years old I attended a dance school since I really loved to dance. Due to financial reasons I was taken out at age six but that didn’t stop me, between the ages 9-11 I would take my little Samsung tablet I had at the time and record myself dancing to music, pretending to be a YouTuber, doing room tours, Fashion shows and just filming my life. I was very energetic as a child and loved being myself so it reflected on the person I am today. Fast forward to January 2022 at 18 years old, I uploaded my first YouTube video where I brung my subscribers to my lash, Nail and hair appointments to get ready for the 2022 new year. Since then I started telling myself “I really wanna do this and become a creator.” Here I am almost a year later still consistent and focused on growing my channel bigger and better!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since the start of my YouTube journey, I’ve had a somewhat smooth road but there will always be struggles along the way, no one is perfect. I’ve learned that consistency and being yourself are very important when it comes to being an influencer/content creator. You have to be consistent to show that you really take it serious and have passion for what you create. Being yourself shows people who YOU really are, never change for the media stay authentic! There will always be people who don’t support you or hate on you from a distance, but at the end of the day, YOU are your biggest supporter. My confidence and motivation has grown so much from being myself and working toward consistency.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a sophomore at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University majoring in Fashion! My YouTube channel consists of lifestyle, fashion and College-related content. Since my commitment to an HBCU, I started creating vlogs related to college life, which brung in a lot of viewers who are either planning on attending an HBCU or college in general. The first video that gained popularity is my “Day in the life at Clark Atlanta University” vlog. I also enjoy traveling which inspired me to vlog my experience at the Dominican Republic & A tiny house resort. I try to be as versatile when it comes to content but I feel that me choosing the path to attend a college while vlogging my experience helped me gain an audience as well as inspiring others. As to being a fashion major on campus, I’m known for styling aesthetically pleasing outfits and feeling confident in what I wear. Growing up in New York, fashion was always something I enjoyed, it makes me happy! New York being the “hotspot” for fashion, I believe it’s a lifestyle rather than “just clothes.” Being myself and not changing for the internet/media is what sets me apart from everyone else. I am proud of the woman I am becoming and can’t wait to see how much I’ll grow in the future!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to NEVER GIVE UP! Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. You can do anything you put your mind to! Be HUMBLE and watch how far you’ll grow. Stay positive and block out any negativity that comes your way. Treat others the way you want to be treated and most importantly.. have faith and keep God with you at all times.
