Life & Work with Dijia Chen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dijia Chen.

Dijia Chen

Hi Dijia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I discovered my passion for drawing at a young age and took great pride in the Pokémon series I created. In middle school, my interest in design was influenced by Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. I recall being the unnoticed individual in class during both middle and elementary school until everything changed on the first day of high school. Determined to make a difference, I embarked on a journey of self-improvement, focusing on physical fitness and enhancing my social skills.

Motivated by my newfound confidence, I pursued higher education at the Shanghai University of Engineering Science, specializing in Filming & Editing. I achieved exceptional grades throughout my academic journey and was awarded the prestigious third-class scholarship for eight consecutive semesters. Graduating with honors was a testament to my dedication and hard work.

Driven by my passion for design, I aspired to further my education in this field. Therefore, I eagerly submitted my application to Savannah College of Art and Design for graduate school, aiming to continue honing my skills and knowledge.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The challenges I faced were not only language-related but also encompassed numerous cultural barriers. I vividly recall my initial experience of shopping at Target, where I found myself utterly lost and unable to locate something as basic as dishwashing liquid. Fortunately, my former roommate, Linda Lin, came to my rescue and guided me through the process.

Having spent nearly two years in this new environment, I have encountered many international students who share similar difficulties. In an effort to pay forward the kindness I received from my friends, I make it a point to assist them to the best of my ability. It brings me great satisfaction to offer support and guidance, just as others did for me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a dedicated full-time student pursuing a major in advertising, specializing in creative strategy and art direction. Drawing from my international background, I possess a broadened perspective when it comes to understanding brands and their dynamics. Furthermore, my undergraduate experience in filming and editing has equipped me with refined visualization skills, which are particularly valuable in today’s TikTok-dominated era.

What sets me apart from others is my unwavering passion and commitment to my work. When I dive into a project, I become fully immersed and strive to deliver my absolute best. Procrastination has no place in my workflow—I tackle tasks head-on, ensuring timely completion and maintaining a high standard of quality.

I post my works on Instagram from time to time; if you are interested in me please check out @jiajia_artistt

I am also an occasional model and have been fortunate enough to work with a number of Atlanta photographers to produce beautiful work. I think the camera is wonderful for recording. Please check out @jiajia_chenn to learn more.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Upon graduation, my ultimate aspiration is to establish myself as a full-time creative strategist. As I approach this significant milestone, I have been actively exploring various creative agencies in the local Atlanta area, carefully considering their potential alignment with my career goals and aspirations. Currently, I am in the process of preparing my internship applications for these agencies, aiming to gain valuable hands-on experience and further refine my skills in the field.

Despite the ongoing impact of AI technology on the industry, I maintain a strong belief in its future. My confidence stems from my unwavering inspiration drawn from my unique perspective of the world and my ability to discern emerging trends. While AI technology has its undeniable benefits, there are intrinsic aspects of creativity, perception, and understanding that it cannot replicate. These qualities are the very essence of what makes the human touch indispensable in the creative field.
