Today we’d like to introduce you to Dymond Fogg.
Dymond, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After graduating from North Carolina State University, my work has focused intentionally on community engagement, business development, and event planning. At a North Carolina land conservancy, I began as Community Engagement Coordinator and was later promoted to Community Engagement Manager. This role deepened my connection to conservation and my local community. I established new partnerships, including with the Duke Nicholas School of the Environment and NC State College of Natural Resources, and later developed a three-part engagement plan for the conservancy’s newest 447-acre property. This experience sparked my love for the environment and authentic relationship building. After working across nonprofits, city government, and the private sector, I realized I am happiest rooted in a nonprofit focused on community service.
At Legacy Decatur, we grow partnerships and programs to support a positive legacy for the city. We are the nonprofit manager of Decatur Legacy Park, a 77-acre property that is the City of Decatur’s largest green space.
We provide a home for 19 nonprofits, serve as a fiscal sponsor for smaller grassroots organizations, and host a variety of programs to serve our community. I am invigorated by the work I do, the people I serve, and the nonprofits we support.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been an easy road, but I am grateful for the resilience my experiences have taught me. I am especially thankful for my time in sales, starting as a Sales Development Representative and later promoted to an Account Executive role.
Anyone who has worked in sales knows it comes with daily challenges, from hitting quotas to navigating factors beyond your control. That role taught me grit and determination, strengthened my work ethic, and sharpened my business development skills. These lessons continue to guide me in everything I do.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As Programs Manager at Legacy Park, I oversee events, rentals, and community programs while cultivating strong relationships with tenants, partners, and event organizers to ensure they have the space, resources, and support needed for successful experiences. I assist in the development of marketing initiatives, manage sponsorships and grant applications, and support our Executive Director with fundraising and revenue growth.
I recruit, train, and supervise event staff, coordinate volunteer opportunities, and implement feedback systems to improve programs. I also support operational and financial processes by tracking payments, donations, and revenue, assisting with budgeting, and maintaining communication channels to keep tenants and the community informed. My work focuses on creating welcoming, well-organized, and inviting experiences while supporting the long-term sustainability and impact of Legacy Park.
I am proud that Legacy Park welcomed approximately 200,000 patrons this year, who came to relax on our nature trails, play on our inclusive playground, support our Legacy Park nonprofits, and join Legacy Decatur’s signature community events such as Truckin’ Tuesdays, Legacy Community Day, Legacy Campout, volunteer workdays, and more.
Since joining Legacy Decatur, I have increased the number of events held at the park by 53%, making it a vibrant destination for celebrations ranging from weddings and birthday parties to galas, anniversaries, corporate events, and beyond.
We’ve hosted hundreds of events, but the most memorable for me, especially with my passion for the environment, was welcoming Dr. Jane Goodall to Legacy Park on World Peace Day. I grew up watching her on Animal Planet, so hearing her speak was incredible and something I will never forget. Dr. Goodall planted a serviceberry in front of the Nickerson Building, and it now symbolizes the peace she carried throughout her legacy and the legacy that will continue for Legacy Decatur.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
