Life & Work with Egypt Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Egypt Taylor.

Hi Egypt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Coming from a big family on both sides, I grew up around a lot of acrobatic young men who happen to be my cousins. I would see them having flipping contests outside in the grass from a very young age and it rubbed off on me. I began trying to mimic what I saw at home on my bed. Eventually, I was doing all the tricks and turns in elementary school. Unfortunately for me As a self-taught tumbler, I didn’t have the proper foundation as a high-level tumbler due to me not having complete control of my body and led to some pretty serious injuries that required surgery. I underwent surgery for each injury and came out 10 times stronger each time. Although I felt physically stronger, mentally There was a little guard up from the fear of getting injured again. That’s where the journey to helping myself and others build a solid foundation with proper technique and confidence in cheerleading/gymnastics and fitness.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have never seen a smooth road in my life. But I will say from my perspective yes it has been smooth because of the support I received from my family. My parents really did their thing. Making sure I made it to every physical therapy session and had all the proper tools to recover from my injuries so that I could continue to excel in athletics. Not only my parents but my cousins and friends would come over and help me bath or sit with me while I was out of school healing. I really am thankful for my community.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do a little bit of everything. I’ve always been creative. I come from a singing family so music was my first love but I used to be a shy singer growing up, but not anymore. My cousins and I use to write songs and record movies as well. Who knew I would go to college and get a degree in Broadcast Journalism. After graduation, I did videography for a while and then signed up for my first acting class in New Orleans. Once I finished with that course, I moved back to Birmingham al (born and raised) and found a long-term acting school in Huntsville AL, which I attended for four years until I decided to move to ATLANTA full-time. People know me for different things depending on how we met. In college I was known for cheerleading and dance, after college I am known for acting, singing and modeling. To the young athletes that I coach, I am known as coach Egypt. I am a proud tumbling coach and I have the pleasure of helping other athletes build a strong foundation that will give them confidence for a lifetime and avoid injuries. I am also proud of myself for never giving up on the things that make myself and others happy. I believe the one thing that sets me apart is my ability to connect and understand different personalities.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid confirmed my path even more. It instilled confidence that I wasn’t crazy for trying to pursue what others would call impossible. I believe that doing things that you are passionate about and helping others is the most important. I believe that we were put on this earth to serve others while building a happy and fulfilling life as well.
