Today we’d like to introduce you to EJ Harris.
Hi EJ, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am EJ Harris. I am the owner, operator and visionary of EJ’S SPA GARAGE. I am a native Atlantan and a proud mother of three. All of my life, I’ve suffered from eczema. Not only have I suffered from the aggravating symptoms, but from the emotional stress of it as well. Many of my friends and family members have suffered from acne. Over the years, I’ve witnessed how skin issues can affect self-esteem. I also have a love for old-school and vintage muscle cars, with the 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle being my favorite. EJ’s Spa Garage is a combination of my love for muscle cars and skincare. That’s where the name Spa Garage comes from. I love to see a classic car restored to life by someone who loves what they do. They put their all into restoring it and bringing out the beauty of it. That’s how I feel about skin. I get great satisfaction when I help someone to renew their skin to its original glow. It gives me the same excitement as seeing a classic car restored. I’m even happier when I see the smiles and boosted confidence. I started EJ’s SPA GARAGE to boost my own confidence while enhancing and healing the skin of others to boost theirs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest obstacles in bringing EJ’s Spa Garage to life was having the faith to start it and remove doubt from my mindset. The other thing that has been difficult has been securing funding. I’ve had to self-fund for everything. All of my overhead to this point has been paid out of pocket with no assistance.
There are so many things that you have to do and learn along the way to becoming a business owner. Everything is not as simple as people make it seem. It’s not impossible. You have to lock in on your vision and stay focused.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed esthetician. I love to focus on acne and eczema. I welcome everyone to EJ’S SPA GARAGE for facials in a very relaxed setting. I take care of people’s skin in a relaxing way and customize every facial. One of my main goals is to encourage more men to get facials and invest in their skin health. I am great at cleansing facial hair and relieving ingrown hair and trapped oil under the surface. I specialize in Deep Cleansing Facials and I love extractions.
I’m just proud to be able to have my own Spa to serve my clients. To say that I believed in myself and put my fears behind me and went after my dreams makes me really proud of myself.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Having a positive attitude and a love for people has been essential to my success. Remaining enthusiastic and optimistic about my vision has kept me going. I could have let so many things and individuals discourage me but that would have only clouded my judgment about where I’m headed on this journey.
