Life & Work with Emily Pinto of Augusta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Pinto.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey with photography began unexpectedly in 2020, when I was confined to bed with severe, undiagnosed stomach pain. To pass the time, I taught myself Photoshop, and creating images quickly became an escape—one that helped me endure the pain until surgery revealed and removed a non-functioning gallbladder. That experience sparked a realization: I wanted to spend my life creating visuals that inspire, entertain, and bring joy. On the final day of registration in Fall 2021, I applied to Augusta Technical College, where I studied graphic design, photography, and web interface design. Photography soon became my true passion, and I devoted countless hours to learning both in and out of the studio.

While in college, I joined SkillsUSA, serving as State Officer President (2022–2023) and National Vice President (2023–2024), and earning first-place awards in Graphic Design (2022) and Photography (2023) at the State Leadership and Skills Conference. College also introduced me to modeling when I volunteered as a subject for classmates’ projects, helping me grow comfortable on both sides of the camera. After graduating, I pursued the arts more fully—modeling internationally in 2024 at the Davines Pro Worldwide Hair Tour and signing with CLICK Models Atlanta in 2025. I later trained under Sanjeev Singal at CSRA Photography and will step into ownership of the studio on March 1st, continuing to serve the Augusta area with headshots, portraits, and event photography.

In 2025, I joined Open Mic Perform Pro as Head of Photography for the documentary Season of Drought, a project dedicated to amplifying the voices of individuals experiencing homelessness and inspiring cultural and systemic change. Set for release in 2026, the film is deeply personal to me; in 2018, someone close to me became homeless, forever reshaping my understanding of the issue. I am honored to be part of a team committed to intentional storytelling—using photography and film to give voice to the voiceless and spark compassion and action.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced has been overcoming both physical and mental obstacles. After being involved in a car accident, I had to continue attending classes and pursuing my career while recovering, which required resilience and determination.

Alongside the physical challenges, I also worked through building confidence in myself and my abilities. By pushing through discomfort and self-doubt, I learned how growth often comes from perseverance.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What do you specialize in/What are you known for: Professional corporate headshots & Portraits [I work with individuals as well as companies by providing beautiful headshots that individuals can use professionally–helping them create trust and rapport with their clientele.]

What are you most proud of: I’m always excited to provide headshots to those who may have never experienced it before. To see their joy and excitement brightens my day.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to those just starting out is to surround yourself with people who are already doing what you aspire to do. Being around individuals who challenge you, inspire you, and push you to grow can make a huge difference in your development. Not only for learning skills, but for building confidence in your journey.
