Life & Work with Emma Dika of Downtown Austell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Dika

Hi Emma , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Kenya, where celebrations were a way of life. Our home was always the gathering spot for weekend get-togethers, holiday feasts, and special occasions. I loved the energy, the connection, and the joy that came with hosting—though I didn’t love washing dishes afterward! Those experiences ingrained in me a deep appreciation for bringing people together.

When I moved to the U.S. for my undergraduate studies, I worked hard to build a life, a career, and a sense of community. Hosting remained a big part of who I was—whether it was organizing small gatherings with friends or helping plan events. Time and again, people would tell me how much they loved the atmosphere I created, which planted a seed: What if I could build a space where others could create their own unforgettable moments?

That idea turned into The Pinnacle Places—a venue designed to make celebrations effortless, beautiful, and meaningful. From weddings and milestone birthdays to creative projects and corporate events, I wanted to offer a space where people could gather, connect, and make memories.

Building this business wasn’t easy, but it was driven by passion and purpose. Every detail reflects my journey—from a childhood filled with vibrant gatherings to the dream of creating a venue that brings people together. When you step into The Pinnacle Places, you’re stepping into more than just a space; you’re stepping into a story—one of connection, perseverance, and the joy of celebration.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! Like many entrepreneurs, my journey has been filled with challenges. Balancing a full-time career in data engineering while building The Pinnacle Places from the ground up was one of the biggest hurdles. There were long nights, financial risks, and constant learning curves in an industry that was completely new to me.

Beyond just running a business that brings people together, I’ve always had bigger responsibilities. Providing financial support for my family back home and helping students in Kenya with school fees has been a driving force behind my work. That commitment has required discipline, sacrifice, and strategic planning to ensure I’m growing both my business and my ability to give back.

Building brand awareness was another hurdle. Launching a new event space in a competitive market meant I had to find ways to stand out. From networking with event planners to leveraging social media and collaborating on styled shoots, I worked hard to create visibility and credibility.

Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Every setback taught me something, and every win—big or small—reminded me why I started in the first place. The Pinnacle Places isn’t just a business; it’s a dream built on resilience, passion, and the belief that success should also create opportunities for others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Outside of running The Pinnacle Places, I work full-time as a data engineer—a career that requires precision, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. My background in data engineering has shaped the way I approach business, from making data-driven decisions about marketing and operations to balancing risk management and financial planning.

Juggling both a corporate career and entrepreneurship has been a challenge, but it has also taught me resilience, time management, and adaptability. The structured, analytical mindset I apply in my engineering role helps me think critically about growing my business, optimizing processes, and ensuring The Pinnacle Places operates efficiently.

While these two worlds—tech and hospitality—may seem unrelated, they both require innovation, attention to detail, and the ability to create solutions that enhance people’s experiences. My goal is to continue excelling in both spaces, proving that you can build a thriving business while pursuing a demanding career.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Success is never a solo journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the people who have supported me along the way.

I owe a huge thank you to my family, friends and community, who have been my biggest cheerleaders. Many have helped spread the word, attended events, and provided valuable feedback that has helped shape The Pinnacle Places. Their support has been instrumental in getting this business off the ground.

Additionally, fellow entrepreneurs, event planners, and creatives I’ve connected with have played a big role. The event industry thrives on collaboration, and I’ve been fortunate to work with people who have shared insights, helped with networking, and partnered with me to bring my vision to life.

Finally, my early clients deserve so much credit. Even though we’ve just opened, the trust and excitement from those who have already booked events at The Pinnacle Places means everything. Their experiences and word-of-mouth referrals are helping build the foundation for long-term success.

At the end of the day, success is a collective effort, and I’m beyond grateful for every person who has been part of this journey. I truly couldn’t have done it alone.
