Life & Work with Erica Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Clark.

Hi Erica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Koko Knows, LLC all began in late 2019 in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I gave birth to my first and only daughter, Klarity (Koko) Clark and unfortunately, I was soon after greeted by post partum depression. I was not able to nor did I want to return to work at the medical facility I was employed with. The Koko Knows books and brand are a reflection of how I found strength in my downtime to tap into my talents and allow them to make room for me. I dug myself out of a dark place by getting creative. Koko Knows workbooks contain everything I’ve ever learned over the years as I became an adult and the knowledge I’ve gained in work fields like medical administration, early childhood education and corporate America. So far, we’ve accomplished goals like gaining publicity, creating a structured workbook that parents who homeschool can reference for basic academia, and lastly promote a brand of fashion that represents children and is based on positive self image and affirmations. We believe “as the mind goes the body will follow”. It is time to refocus and redirect the future as we know it. Koko Knows how by getting back to the basics and introducing children to self love, high vibes, morals and family support!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Covid-19 caused a limited amount of struggles where promotion was involved. Having to social distance and only hold small group sessions when hosting events, our exposure was somewhat limited. However, we continued to host a book launch event on 8/27/2020 with a capacity of seven guests. Each guest was handpicked based on career/ experience. In attendance were parents, school teachers, pediatricians and child psychologists. it was a hit!

Another bump in the road came in developing a reliable team of creatives who would not only see my vision but implement it into the brand without changing our image or mission. In a world of technology and scamming, we certainly ran across a lot of individuals who posed as graphic designers, artists and more only to be disappointed by our findings. We gave it more time and patience and eventually found a reliable team. The proof is in the workbook!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Each workbook contains basic academia on a learning level of Pre K- 5th grade. I wrote all of the context, I created the image and layout of each workbook and I also created the worksheets used to teach each lesson.

I specialize in writing and have always been acknowledged for my abilities to translate and develop literature to support lesson plans and business plans. In my private time, I like to write poetry, storytell and creative writing.

I am most proud of myself for stepping out of the corporate work pool and branching off into my own business at what felt like one of the most challenging times of my life.

What sets me apart is that while the world and my physical state of being were in turmoil, I found light in darkness and created my own lane. Even if I never earn a single dime with this business, I’ll still be happy with knowing one child was reached and that that child learned a lesson about self love, responsibility or even learned how to read by using one of my workbooks.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I enjoy reading and listening to artists who specialize in manifestations, self help and affirmations. I like motivational speakers and attend conferences often. Some of my favorites are Abraham Hicks, Les Brown, Iyanla Vanzant, Pastor Samuel Blakes Jr and a host of other motivational speakers/authors.
