Life & Work with Erin Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Davis.

Hi Erin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began doing makeup professionally in 2016. Initially, I relocated to Orlando, where I worked both on set and did SFX makeup for Universal studios. In January of 2020, I relocated to Atlanta and also learned to style hair in addition to my previous makeup skills. I now split my time between working on set and at Urban Evolution salon in Virginia Highlands.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The challenges have been constant since the get go! There is always a new technique to learn and refine in both makeup and hair, and most of the time you are having to learn in front of more experienced artists, which can be intimidating. Our industry changed a lot with covid, there was quite a while when I wondered if I would ever get to do makeup again. It’s been great to see the industry bounce back and flourish.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Makeup, Special Effects, Hair Styling Known for being able to cover all aspects of looks on set, as well as hair in the salon. I’m most proud of my prosthetic applications, particularly prosthetics I make and run myself.

What matters most to you?
Quality! I’ve reached a point in my life where I can be selective about the work I take. If I’m not passionate about the project, I finally feel comfortable turning it down. Between salon and set work, I only choose what brings me joy, and that has been the best feeling.
