Life & Work with Floyd Grant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Floyd Grant.

Hi Floyd, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started when I was 1-2 years old my mother told me that I was very quiet and they didn’t know if I could talk but they realized that I hummed a lot and they would catch me singing outside from time to time and my mother knew then that I was gifted. When I was five years old, I knew three part harmony and would record over tapes with the cassette players back in the day that had the play side and the record side. My mother also sang, so I mimicked her and would accidentally record over her songs hahaha, well it’s funny now but it wasn’t funny then but I learned a lot from my mother. When I was ten years old, I was singing in the church choir and I was shy and the Choir director pushed me to the front and would not let me hide my gift. When I would sing, the holy spirit would come to the church and the whole church would be in uproar it was said that I was the anointed child singer. In 2003, I was asked to be in my first R&B group which would begin my recording career, where I learned my craft, vocals, writing skills, recording skills, and live performing. It was not easy because at the time, my voice was still developing and I was told oh nobody wants to hear you, you need to go back to church, and you’ll never be like this or that, I never listened to the Nay Sayers I continued to prove that what I set out to do will be done and I did and in 2010 after winning the LL COOL J Music Contest I left the group I was apart of and started my Solo Career June 2010 and from that point the rest was history.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and No! But I will start with the Yes. Once people got wind of my talent, people wanted me to sing everywhere, they wanted my music. Radio DJ’s wanted my music, people wanted to interview me. People wanted to work with me. I’ve collaborated with so many different artists and won 12 music awards along the way, It was amazing to even do artist line up shows with fellow artists and was able to create shows myself and include some of my favorite artists and friends in this business so that we all can shine. GOD truly opened many doors that I’ve been blessed to walk in. Such as Steve Harvey, LL Cool J, R&B Divas Atlanta with my boy Da Public’s Eye and so many more wonderful things.

But one thing I realized along the way is, the more praise you receive the more Jealousy and Envy follows and sometimes it comes from those around you, your friends, family and even people sitting at your table. Yes, I’ve had many people come against me, humiliated me, talked about me, Lied on me, tried to Sabotage my character so that I wouldn’t get to certain levels that I still managed to get to regardless, through determination and with GOD all things are possible. If GOD be for you who can stand against you! It was my Faith in GOD that continued to move past the negativity and understand that If I wasn’t doing the right things, they wouldn’t be talking about me, they wouldn’t be jealous, they wouldn’t be going so hard to knock me off my path that GOD has given me to walk. Always remember when you are going through on your journey that you are on the right path! God got you!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a R&B/POP Recording Artist out of Atlanta GA, I’ve been recording music for 19 years but have been a Solo Artist for 11 years. I have 3 Albums out, a plethora of singles and collaborations with amazing artists such as Da Publics Eye, Londee the Artist, JCoop, Athena Rene, A Lady Named Pearl, Dontrell Brewer and many more.

What sets me apart from others is that I do the kind of music I feel and not competing with other artists or the next trend and because of that authenticity, people are drawn to my music.

I am proud to also be a 12x music award winner by various award platforms such as: ATL’S Hottest Awards, Akademia Awards, Ganspa Awards and Hoodie Awards. I have been featured on Steve Harvey Morning Show, LL COOL J Music competition, R&B Divas Atlanta and more.
