Today we’d like to introduce you to Griffin Lambert.
Hi Griffin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started shooting photography around 4 years ago, shortly after my dad passed away from pancreatic cancer. Photography was initially a distraction from the overwhelming grief I was experiencing, but I quickly fell in love with it. When I first started, I primarily shot cosplay photography but soon moved into other forms like astrophotography and landscapes before experimenting with fine art portraiture. The latter became my main focus and since then I’ve had the good fortune of collaborating with so many talented artists, as well as developing friendships that mean the world to me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Developing a personal style in terms of concepts, composition and editing has been a constant struggle for me. I’m attracted to many different approaches and what appeals to me as an artist changes from day to day, so it’s difficult to nail down what my style exactly is. Another struggle has been being satisfied with the art I create, as I hold myself to a very high standard and can always see how my work could be improved upon.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I shoot dramatic fine art portraits in interesting locations, ranging from remote nature to abandoned places. I put a significant amount of work into location scouting in an attempt to find eye-catching areas. I think I’m most proud of the friendships I’ve made with other artists. One aspect of my art that sets me apart from many other artists is that I composite images of the stars I’ve taken into some of my portraitures. I also overlay textures that I’ve created onto portraits as well.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To not compare my work to others. It can be challenging not to at times, but I do my best to only compare my current work to my earlier art. It can be frustrating to not be creating the quality of the work you’re inspired by, but improving as an artist is a marathon, not a sprint.
