Life & Work with Hannah McCrary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah McCrary.

Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
March 2020, the world came to a screeching and yet resounding halt. I knew in that moment that life as we knew it was changing. My life was changing in more ways than one. I remember packing all of my belongings at my job to work from home and just feeling scared, uncertain but yet hopeful that it would be ok. I got home after a quick stop by the pharmacy and discovering within in minutes that I was expecting my fourth child. Talk about an absolute game-changer! I knew I would have to do something that now suited the needs of not only my present three children but also this new little person joining us later that year. I remember wanting to really dab in photography so I researched beginner cameras and I landed on a Canon Rebel T7. I started researching photography. After my 37th Bday shoot in June 2021, it changed the game for me. I knew instantly I needed more knowledge not more equipment. I would learn when I put the babies to bed or after a feeding with my infant. I knew in order to get to where I really wanted to be I had to be consistent. Today I am a much more confident photographer. I have found the space in which I belong and I would not change it for all the gold in the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth at all. There have been days I have cried because I just could not figure out what I was doing wrong and I wanted so badly to be amongst the greats. I would spend days learning the body of my equipment and others learning editing software. I would spend long days and nights trying to master my craft. There is a saying that says, “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one”. In this world of photography and being a creative you will find yourself immersed in a sea of possibilities and opportunities but never stop learning. Learn from them all. The bad moments taught me to persevere. The good moments taught me to push a little more. Because if they thought that was great…..they haven’t seen nothing yet!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Hi, world I am Hannah and I am a photographer! Every shoot is unique. I have never shot the same session twice. Every session has a new lesson embedded in it. Every session has a new life to learn. I take those conversations with clients and try to embody the essence of the life they live and the beauty they feel and put it into a photo. That’s my specialty! I am known for being out of the box. I am a ball of ideas and sometimes bouncing ideas off my family and friends allows me to fine-tune some of those ideas and then I am able to create a vision board for the client that speaks to who they are or whatever they want to be. I am most proud of my ability to be present in every moment. One of the most important components of my sessions is music. After consultation, I create a playlist for that specific shoot and it is what motivates me to execute the client’s wishes without compromising my very own creative process. I love it here! What sets me apart…Psalm 139:14 says ” I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” I am my father’s workmanship and if I am to be anyone’s carbon copy it is his. I was set apart long before I knew I was set apart and that is what sets me apart.

What matters most to you?
GOD! He is the driving force in my life! I would be nothing without him. I am because of him! Life is hard and man can sometimes fail but God has a proven record of NEVER FAILING. Though I have proven to be a handful at times and hard-headed he has never left me. Then there is my children…..Where do I even start? Being a mother is a gift not to be handled lightly. It is one of the most rewarding jobs I have. They are counting on me and as scary as that may be, sometimes I am up for the task. God got me! When I started this photography journey, I would practice with them for hours and they would complain but they are my biggest fans! My parents, siblings, my close friends…What you see in me is an outpouring of love and prayers from my close-knit circle and I would be nowhere without them.
