Today, we’d like to introduce you to Indi A.
Hi Indi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I can say the starting point of my story pinned when I was in elementary school.
Of course, we had uniforms back then, but I would always try to find a way to spice it up, whether it was with the Barrett in my hair or, at the time, the long boots with the tassels and the cowboy hoods with the heel, and of course, they were Trendy but not for an 8-year-old 3rd grader. Spending a lot of my downtime watching Disney and Project Runway, I fell in love with clothes, but, most importantly, the construction of clothes and the blank paper effect of transforming materials into something more.
This inspired my sister and I to start making bows and constructing different patterns and colors to make the most beautiful bows. My mother, being the businesswoman she is, was 100% behind it as she is all of my dreams and goals, which is another reason I think I was about to grow because I didn’t have someone trying to dim my light, not to say she agreed with everything I wear or all the routes I take because she going to have her opinion like any mother but never did tell me to quit.
I think now I’m still exploring and creating, deconstructing, and mixing because I don’t like to limit myself to people’s perception but also my own eyes, meaning I grab inspiration and ideas from beyond what my eyes see and pull from what I hear, feel, gravitate towards. This brings me to my favorite mean-girl quote: “The limit does not exist.”
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
This road I’m on has not been easy, but when is a diamond made with ease? Being young in this world with a generation before you trying to belittle every experience you’ve had because someone may feel as if their struggles are greater.
But I never belittle anyone because I know what it feels like when it’s just you and your four walls there listening to everything scream, cry, yawn, laugh, speak thought as you are trying to become yourself again, whether it’s after a rough year. Family trauma, a broken heart, or a failed project.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
These, to me, are funny questions because it depends on who you ask; some may say it’s my various hair color starting from when I was 14 getting into wigs and weave, some my indescribable style, some my personality and outings, but for me, I feel with all of that the answer to all of the questions would be me.
I’ve dipped into so many different things, selling hair, makeup, YouTube content, fashion inspiration, etc., because I have so many different interests that I’m not just the “fashion influencer, the makeup guru, or the hairstylist, or even the YouTuber. I’m just Indi.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
I know this may be the oldest tale in the book, but birds of a feather do flock together, so I would say surround yourself with like-minded or those who share the same goals as you; if you want to be a lawyer, surround yourself with lawyers because the best ones aren’t at a lounge every week they’re studying for the bar.
To be a singer, surround yourself with people like me. The industry, not just those who make music from time to time or say they want to go to the studio but never go; you have to get I. The driver’s seat pushes the pedal on your dream.
