Life & Work with Insley Davis of Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Insley Davis

Hi Insley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey in media started with my dad, who instilled a love for storytelling and content early on. Every Saturday growing up, he’d take me to AMC Southlake, where we’d watch movies that sparked conversations and left lasting impressions on me. This ritual became the foundation of my passion for media, and years later, it fueled my leap into the industry. As a producer in statewide public media, I bring a unique perspective as a native Atlantan, where I proudly contribute to projects that spotlight our state’s rich stories and help build a platform to share them.

From there, I dove fully into building my own brand and online presence, launching a podcast called Better and Badder and growing a strong following on TikTok. Each step in my journey has been about creating work that not only entertains but also resonates and empowers, especially with young entrepreneurs. I’m committed to using media as a tool for self-improvement and growth, and as I expand my brand, I’m grateful for how it connects me with people who feel inspired by the stories I share.

Looking forward, I’m thrilled for the projects ahead. The docuseries I’m producing is set to release in Fall 2026, and I’m currently planning a production summit with my company. I couldn’t be happier with the work I’m doing now and can hardly imagine anything else—but eventually, I hope to produce more projects with a higher purpose and meaningful messages.

Directing an emotionally provocative commercial for the Super Bowl or the Olympics might also be on my bucket list. In an abstract way I’m hoping to create pieces that captivate and connect audiences worldwide.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Working in the film industry is extremely rewarding, but it’s a difficult industry to break into. There’s lots of competition from so many talented people, and some of them have way more experience. It’s not completely unheard of to get hired as a production manager under 30, but it is rare. I think the thing that helped me most is that I secured meaningful opportunities that gave me the chance to grow and polish my skills as quickly as possible. You have to prove your voice is worth hearing.

I’m still finding my unique voice, though. In my professional life, I’m writing the narrators’ portion of the scripts, and perspective is actually what preserves the integrity and soul of the show. Telling history in a way that is honest and entertaining requires a special touch that I refine more with each episode. For my personal brand, I’m still experimenting and taking risks to learn new skills, and what resonates with my audience most – It’s actually how the idea for the podcast was born.

And of course, finding balance is an ongoing effort. There’s a lot of hard work and long nights involved to bring my vision to life, but it’s all worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a television production manager. Some people refer to this as a UPM, but I’m basically building a show from the ground up. I was given a concept to revamp and topics I’m required to discuss, but other than that, I get the pleasure of deciding how the show looks and sounds. I even cast the hosts and decided how the set will look.

My proudest accomplishment is the platform I’ve created to teach and empower others. As a descendent of a founder of my alma mater, Fort Valley State University, teaching is in my blood. I hope to educate people about our state, strategies that helped me get to where I am today, and most importantly that success is attainable without sacrificing your unique voice or values. In a field where many are vying for attention, I believe my authenticity and commitment to producing content with depth and purpose set me apart – I’m always thinking about the “why” behind each project and how it can serve a higher purpose.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Funny enough, growing up I was the exact same as I am now and I think a lot of people could attest to that. I’ve always been nerdy and informed. I’ve always been about fighting the good fight. I’ve always been all about the arts, movies, and fashion. The biggest difference is the maturity and discernment I’ve gained over time.
