Life & Work with Ivanna Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivanna Lopez.

Ivanna Lopez

Hi Ivanna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in New York but grew up in South Florida my whole life; my parents are from Chile and have always worked hard for a better life for me, I’ve always had a hard time adjusting and being around others, especially as a little kid, and the only interest I seemed to have was in the arts. I’ve been pretty interested in art ever since I was very young; I think I took it seriously when I started high school; it’s always been the subject I gravitated towards the most for some reason.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I like to think things have been relatively smooth; I’ve always had a good support system; my parents and brothers have always supported what I do and want I want to do with the rest of my life. I think the real struggle I’ve faced was always with my learning disabilities; I find that I’ve always had to work twice as hard to understand the material in front of me compared to my peers, not to say the people around me don’t work hard either; there are so many things that just don’t click for me as fast as others. But I persist anyway.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think the thing I’m most known for from all my peers are all the drawings of pretty women I make, which I always thought was funny since that’s all I do draw; I think it’s my specialty. But I think I’ve always been more attracted to what is typically feminine, and that’s just the subject I’ve always liked to draw, making things purely for aesthetic reasons. I think it’s good for some things to just be forever simple and pretty.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I’m not too sure. The world moves so fast, and trends move even faster. I just hope things get better for creatives.
