Today we’d like to introduce you to J Le’Anthony.
Hi J, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
So at first I started writing poetry. I didn’t really like poetry all the way. I felt as if it wouldn’t have/make any real impact globally. I took a major interest in black history when I was younger. Specifically I started learning more about MLK, Malcolm X, and Marcus Garvey. Having the weight of their legacy’s on my shoulders I knew what I had to do and purse would have to be grand. After looking and studying rappers when I was growing up (e.g. J Cole and Kendrick Lamar) that’s when I told myself that’s what I would love to do to make a difference. After that the rest is history.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. A lot of struggles are from when I first started actually making music. My family wasn’t very supportive. They didn’t see the vision. Some still kind of don’t but of course I’m still pushing through the hate. It’s all about the goals that you have and what you want at the end of the day. I’m not completely saying it’s all bad but it’s definitely been hard staying motivated. It’s more about being consistent instead of how I feel.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a musician. I am a creative. I also am an actor. For work I record music, market myself and the music, make content centered around the music I’m making, act in short films, and make sure my mental is good at the end of the day. I’m most proud of my drive and the determination to continue pursing my dreams. I get up when no one else is looking, I keeping going without any support from other expect my own, and I do it with conviction. That’s what I feel like what sets me apart. It’s the ambition in my character.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me the most is living out God’s purpose for me. What does it profit a man to chase pleasure if it hinders his growth? Everything is through God and my will. I won’t hold back any once of energy I have until my will is completed and finished.
