Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Ciulla.
Jacqueline, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started hair school at 17 years old, and from there, I went on to work in a full-service salon as an assistant, slowly working my way up to the stylist level. As soon as I started working behind the chair, that is where hair became my passion. Around this time, balayage was just becoming a service. Many stylists began performing behind the chair. I started offering the services to my clients. The salon I was in at the time was not happy about me offering this as a service to clients due not knowing how to “price” the service. I dealt with a lot of resistance and decided at 22 years old I was going to become a suite owner. When I took on this venture, I truly was not prepared; however, I took the chance on myself, and I am proud to say that I have sustained over 9 years as an independent stylist. There were many opportunities that came my way that I don’t think would have been possible had I just stayed in my comfort zone. In order to keep my suite open and financially support myself I worked a second job at a local dry bar, this is where my second largest passion came to be bridal hair styling. I absolutely loved styling hair and creating timeless looks for woman on their wedding day. Since branching out into the bridal industry, I have been published in many magazines and wedding sites as well as getting the title Best of Wedding in Atlanta via the Knot. On a regular basis, I still meet with my regular clientele and enjoy doing weddings on the weekends. I truly am blessed to do what I love, and I am thankful to be able to continue in a career that has been so rewarding and work in such a beautiful industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I faced many obstacles and challenges in my career and still do to today. The biggest one would have to be the feeling of burnout. As a service provider, it is really easy to over-give in return, which affects your ability to show up and put your best self forward to your clients. It takes a lot of self-discipline and confidence to know your worth and what you are offering your clients. Once you are able to identify the things that bring you down in your work life, you will find it easy to correct those things, and in return, it will be confidence boosting. I found that the way I was carrying myself at times was not professional, I corrected the pattern and was able to gain that confidence back in return,
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in brunette and blonde hair color and bridal hairstyling. My looks have been featured and published on many wedding sites, as well as my work shared with many large hair care brands. I was recently ask to participate in the very first Atlanta Swim Week as a hairstylist, and my bridal company was voted Best of the Knot Weddings. I have many passions, but none truly reflect me more than the satisfaction and gratitude that come from hair coloring and bridal hairstyling, which can make someone look and feel their absolute best. Curating looks tailored to your everyday life and maintaining happy, healthy hair with a great care routine is my goal. Assisting you in maintaining your color at home, all while making your bridal hair dreams come true with selected styles to achieve those Pinterest-worthy looks.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I absolutely love the city of Atlanta. It is so vibrant and full of rich southern culture. Coming from NYC as an Atlanta transplant, I loved the slowed-down pace here and truly getting to explore and immerse myself in the city and culture. The one downside is the traffic here is a bit much and definitely entails lots of planning to make plans.
