Life & Work with Jai Fears of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jai Fears

Hi Jai, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts off all too familiar with growing up singing in the church teenage choir and taking Jazz and Tap as a young child. Those dance recitals led to performing at half time at my Mom and Step Dads Super Bowl parties that they would throw at our house. That led to auditioning for a modeling school that trained me to audition for talent agencies in Los Angeles. Once I booked an agent I landed my first speaking role in a feature film titled The Wood within 6 months. My Hollywood journey lasted through high school then moved back to Detroit once I graduated which is where the music journey started, acting continued, dance continued and content creation started. My 1st songs were recorded through a artist development school right outside of Detroit called Star Factory which is where I gained my performing and stage presence skills. During that time I had my 1st starring role in a feature film titled Crossover alone side Anthony Mackie, Taye Diggs and Eva Marcille. Around that time too (which is 2005 btw) I started dancing for the legendary Aretha Franklin (2003 to be exact). I started dancing for Charlie Wilson in 2005 (which i still dance for, this year is my 20 year anniversary) and I also danced in the Super Bowl pre show for Stevie Wonder and John Legend. Dancing for Charlie led me to being an official artist in my own right, releasing my music on streaming platforms, doing my own shows as well as being an opening act for a few of Charlie’s shows, and artists such as Boys To Men, Keyshia Cole, Jeffery Osborne, and Jon B. All of this plus some is how we are here today releasing music, making people laugh and performing live and online. This is the definition of a long story short

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My road was everything but smooth. I’ve been homeless my entire senior year of high school lost loved ones at early ages. I had a severe unknown skin disease that covered about half of my body that was unimaginably painful. I had a house fire that consumed everything I owned, including my cat. That’s just the personal side. The professional side I’ve struggled with having a large enough budget to be able to get myself out faster and to market myself to more people in a timely matter as well as not having a team to bounce ideas around with.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter, dancer, choreographer, creative director, content creator, and actress. I have a unique music niche of fun upbeat energetic songs with a old school vibe. I also infuse cover songs with my original music where sometimes I actually cosplay the artists to take the visuals to another level. This is what also sets me apart along with my strong work ethic from what I’ve been told. While working on my dreams I also work 2 jobs and still dance for Charlie Wilson throughout the year. What i’m most known for right now is my relatable content skits on social media. My music would be. close second.

What matters most to you? Why?
Making my mom proud. She deserves to see her hard work she put into me into fruition.
A close second would be being a example of its possible to achieve your dreams no matter what your age where you live or what you look like.
