Today we’d like to introduce you to Janay Boynton.
Hi Janay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
At the age of 15, I always had a passion for all things associated with beauty and fashion. In high school, I took on cosmetology to learn the different techniques of hair and all hair care products. In the meantime, I was doing some of my classmate’s and friend’s hair for years when I had the free time. In 2020 when Covid-19 entered the world I lost my job due to working in the medical field and my clients took sick. I needed another source of income to keep my bills paid and by me already knowing about the beauty industry the first thing that came to mind was why not sell hair extensions and mink lashes. I took all my ideas and put them to use and started Adore Janay Collection LLC with the help of my loved ones. At first, it was an ongoing consistent sales from my local customers in my hometown which is Augusta, GA. until around about the end of 2020. When 2021 came I decided to rebrand my business and took on a business 1 on 1 course from multiple entrepreneurs that helped me in different ways. I took the knowledge and made the best out of it. Once I finished my rebranding I made my first post with a sale and set up my ads campaign and my sales was just coming in until the point I had to stop accepting orders due to not having all of the inventory. As of now In 2022 my business is doing great I upscaled my website and did a new photoshoot and was able to add shop now pay later for my customers that need to slay now and pay later. I travel between Augusta, GA and Atlanta, GA. On a regular to make sure I meet all my local customer’s needs. Out of cities and states, Customers are also treated with love and care as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it wasn’t easy at all not knowing the exact information that was needed to start a business but the biggest struggle I had at first was getting out-of-state customers. I love that my city was supporting me to a certain extent but I wanted my brand to be seen, heard and known in different cities and states worldwide. So as I took on those courses from other entrepreneurs we had a conversation about marketing and running ads. Once I got the free time I decided to do more research about it through Facebook and mostly Instagram I came up with the campaign and it actually worked out perfectly fine.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself an artist/creative because I take out time and create everything that’s needed for my brand. Flyers, website, content, my logo and etc. I sell hair extensions, mink lashes, cosmetics, wigs, frontal, closures and I wholesale lashes. I’m known for selling all things associated with beauty and a hairstylist. The main thing I am proud of is the fact that I never gave up I continued to push my brand even in difficult times. I love for my brand to stand out, I consistently offered affordable discounts, sales and giveaways for my customers to meet the needs of those who want or need my products and can’t afford the prices. Last of all, I really love and enjoy enhancing other women’s inner and outer beauty.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The books that I’ve read, help me gain knowledge thus far are. The Six Figure Hair Business By Odaiche Tracey Onyike, The Young Entrepreneur’s Guide to Starting and Running a Business: Turn Your Ideas into Money! By Steve Mariotti and Best Marketer Wins by Ming Lee.
