Life & Work with Jasmine Sinkfield of South Fulton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Sinkfield.

Hi Jasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved reading since I was a child. Being immersed in someone else’s world was a form of self-care for me. Even with work, school, and responsibilities, I’ve always tired to prioritize reading. Of course, life got in the way sometimes but I always found my way back. On the other hand, I’ve never been a huge social media person. Something about being vulnerable with strangers on the internet was never appealing to me. One day, I started looking for a community to discuss books with, and that led me to Bookstagram.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey with Bookstagram has had its ups and downs, but mostly ups. One of the things I didn’t really expect when I started my page was that I would find genuine friends and connections that go beyond books. Like others, I definitely struggle with imposter syndrome, lack of motivation, and sometimes lack of creativity. What gets me back on track is remembering why I created this space in the first place – to read books and foster community.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider myself to be a bookish content creator. My page is centered around book reviews and recommendations. I also highlight local businesses and small businesses. I have a soft spot for independent bookstores, especially if they are Black-owned. My reading is super diverse. I read across all genres but my page has a focus on amplifying underrepresented voices in literature.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was definitely introverted. Not really shy, but I frequently gravitated toward quiet moments with my books. I was also more of a creative in my youth with interest in music and writing. Getting into book content has definitely made me tap back into my creative side.
