Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffery Baylock. They and their team shared their story with us below:
From the mean streets of Roseland in Chicago, Jeff Baylock channeled his inner pains and surroundings with the art form of stand-up comedy. For the past ten years, Jeff has mastered his craft of storytelling, stage presence, and charisma. In the summer of 2020, Jeff found a new way to deliver his storytelling prowess, music. Jeff is self-taught, and always up for educational and technical methods to perfect his craft.
In the summer of 2020, Jeff was discovered by Ebony Archer (CEO of Music Evolved Records) that seen a talented and disciplined individual that can soar in the hip hop culture. This is where The Lyrical Assassin was born. It stems from Jeff’s knack for complete assassination when it comes to art, despite the discipline. “Storytelling can be delivered in many art forms” he says. Starting his journey in hip hop, he released his debut single, “Watch Out For Me” that is available in over 200 platforms as a signed artist through Music Evolved Records.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
All roads can be bumpy. Once you become a disciplined person, you can walk on roads barefooted with and injuries. All successful stories come with some sort of struggle like a hero.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a comedian. I specialize in the storyteller style of comedian, which is a person that tell very tough and relatable life lessons and turning them into laughable moments. I’m proud of being dared into this art as it is a way to release my pain and help with my mental health as comedy comes from a dark place. What separates myself from other comics is my stage presentation and using as many comedy techniques as possible.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
They say high risk, high reward. I say take every risk that fits your brand so you can chill later. Sacrifice is a part of risk as I had to make many so I can focus solely on the craft so I can master it. One of my current big risks was moving to another state where I am not known and trying to start over. So far I feel like I’ve made the best decision and I’m giving myself two years to make it work.
