Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey And Yolanda Wilson
Hi Jeffrey and Yolanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jeffrey Wilson. And my name is Yolanda Wilson. Jeffrey and I are married with two children, Harper and Miles. Jeffrey and I met in Law School in Houston, Texas, where we both attended TSU Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Jeffrey currently practices Consumer Law in several different states and Yolanda currently serves as the Associate General Counsel at Clark Atlanta University. However, recently, Jeffrey and I decided to become children book authors. We co-wrote a book called “Harper Teaches Contracts.”
Like many people, we are concerned about the future and what it holds for the next generation. As technology evolves at a rapid pace, we can’t ignore the fact that many of the traditional jobs people rely on today might not exist tomorrow. This looming uncertainty made us think deeply about how we could help prepare our children for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
We realized that children in today’s society need to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Understanding business—how it works, how to think creatively, and how to problem-solve—can empower them to adapt to a changing world. And yet, this kind of knowledge is often overlooked in traditional education.
So, we asked ourselves: What if we could help kids learn about business in a fun and engaging way before they enter middle school? What if we could spark their curiosity and give them the tools they need to think outside of the box? And that’s how the idea for our book, Harper Teaches Contracts, was born. In a fun and colorful way, Harper Teaches Contracts teaches children how to recognize problems in their communities, how to solve those problems through the power of entrepreneurship, all while learning basic contract principles and contract negotiations.
We wanted to create something that didn’t just teach the basics of business, but also encouraged kids to explore their creativity, take initiative, and understand the value of hard work. By introducing them to these key concepts early on, we hope to inspire the next generation to see business not as a distant, intimidating world, but as something they can be part of—whether they want to start their own companies or simply navigate a changing job market.
We believe that by teaching kids about business, we’re not only preparing them to be successful in a society that will likely have fewer traditional jobs, but empowering them to create their own opportunities in spite of the obstacles that they may face. The world is changing, and we want to ensure that our kids are not just prepared to survive in it but thrive in it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Since we are both attorneys during our day to day, the journey to becoming authors has been a new experience for us. We had to learn the proper way to write a book, find a great illustrator, publish a book, and now, how to get our book in the hands of young leaders and future entrepreneurs. To say the least, it has been somewhat of a learning curve.
However, we recognized that many schools are not teaching our kids about the possibility of owning their own business and using entrepreneurship to solve problems that they recognize in their communities. Similar to the story in our book, “Harper Teaches Contracts”, we gladly took on the challenge and started a business called Alan Nicole Productions, LLC, where we seek to fill in the gaps of our educational system by publishing informative and engaging children’s books.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As mentioned previously, we are both attorneys. Being a lawyer really trains you to have a solution-oriented mindset. I believe that our unwavering commitment to see ourselves and others as problem solvers sets us apart from others. Many people are able to recognize what the problem is, but few people take on the challenge of offering viable solutions to the problem and more importantly, strategize and execute those solutions to create real change. We hope to inspire young people all over the world to see themselves as the answer to many of the challenges we face in today’s society.
