Today we’d like to introduce you to Jemór Deon.
Hi Jemór, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out as a clarinet player in my school’s band. I’ve played clarinet and piano my entire life, the clarinet classically, but the piano by ear. In 8th grade, my family and I moved to Roanoke, VA, where I was introduced to a program called The Music Lab at Jefferson Center. That was where I would study music production until I graduated high school. Once I was introduced to that program, music became a diary for me because it was the perfect mutable form of release. Around the same time, I joined my high school theater production and began performing in musicals such as “Rent”, “Grease”, and “West Side Story”. It was then that I started to take the singing side of my career seriously. After graduating high school in 2013, I moved to Atlanta to pursue my career. Along the way, I was able to collaborate with many groups of people and practice the art of being an entertainer. And I have to say the things in my life that have gone the farthest have been with a support group I’ve built from a group of like-minded people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Any road comes with challenges and obstacles, so of course there were setbacks with being an artist. One of the main struggles was that I had to grow comfortable with being a Pop/R&B/Soul artist in a city where trap is prevalent in the mainstream world. Many times I would find myself in close counters with people convincing me to conform my sound to that of a trend. Those times were dark. I started doubting my artistry and my worth as a credible producer. My lesson learned was that of confidence. Once I developed my reason for doing this, The motivation increased, and I soon found that the underground R&B scene is just as fluid as the mainstream trap scene.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter, producer, musician, graphic designer and engineer. I believe that my experience in all of these fields at once sets me apart by allowing me more creative accuracy when it comes to creating more concepts for people to enjoy. I also use my outward experiences in life and conversations with other people as inspiration for more content. I’m using my platform to push love, unity and harmony out into the world because it is so needed in this day and age.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risks are fundamental for growth because they require faith and the relinquishing of your fear. I’ve taken quite a few risks, some of which ended up being what we call failures. But from those failures came very valuable lessons for the future and many relationships. Any action we take is considered a risk to me, simply because there’s always a con in the result. It all just boils down to whether or not you’re willing to accept what life has to offer you once you take that action.
