Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lee.
Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jennifer Lee formerly known as Jennifer Maria. I have been living in Atlanta for about two years. I am Dominican and from New York. I am a wife and a mom of two boys. I have been an accountant for over 13 years and have been modeling for about ten years. I’ve always had a passion for fashion and beauty. My mom owned a boutique in the 90s for 20 years and I just loved the art but coming from a Hispanic household you must have a “real” career so since I loved numbers, I also loved accounting. I’ve been featured on various magazines and have walked the runway. Since I’m getting older, the runway doesn’t seem to catch my attention anymore. But about six years ago I started doing hair shows with brands and my hair became a part of my story. I am now a content creator, showcasing my hair tutorials and I also bring some of my heritage with a Latina mom character. My life as an accountant seems like I’m a boring person but I’m the opposite of that. I love to make people laugh and just be a people person. Because representation matters and I want to continue to represent for girls that look like me.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life is ever easy. Just dealing with people telling you, you can’t do something is always a bump in the road. I have been told that I’m too skinny, too fat, too short in the modeling world but I leave let those things stop me from my dreams and goals. Now content creating is an entirely new world for me so it’s a lot of learning and changing directions because what may work today may not work tomorrow. But consistency is key and the more you do things the more successful you might be at it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I selected others because I wear many hats. I am a corporate accountant and I currently specialize in leasing but I am known for my spreadsheets and formulas. I am proud of learning so much in my career so I can continue to teach others and I never burn bridges along the way. I am a problem solver with cool formulas. But let’s talk about my hair. I have been working to perfect my hair so I can provide those same skills to all my curly girls. I try to inspire anyone I may be in contact with so I can help them with their dreams.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
When my husband and I got married we packed our little Toyota Corolla and drove from New York to California while I was five months pregnant. It was the biggest risk but I did it and I was so happy. That was a dream for both of us and I always tell people to follow their dreams.
