Life & Work with Jessica Agustin of Kennesaw, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Agustin.

Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story starts back in my small home town Show Low high school photography class where I learned everything about my camera and my love for capturing moments grew! Huge shout out to Mr. Lofgreen for teaching me all about Lightroom and my camera!

November of 2020, 2 months after marrying my husband Denn, we were in the car driving back to GA from FL after Thanksgiving, I brought up the idea of opening up my own photography business. I wanted to be able to capture moments, families were able to cherish forever. Denn was so supportive! On that drive, we had a 6 plus hour drive and I wasted no time! I created my Instagram and Facebook page. I also created my logo- originally my business name was Jessica Rose Photography.

In any story there are ups and downs, I decided to go into business with a family member. It was a great time while it lasted, unfortunately it only lasted for 6 months, The best thing that came out of it was the name change of my business- Capturing Moments. It truly defines what everything my business is, capturing moments families can cherish forever!

September of 2021, after giving birth to my first, I went on my first maternity leave, cherished every moment with him. I still continued to do as many sessions as I could. At this time we lived out in Dallas, GA, it was definitely hard to get clients since we knew no one out there.

Fast forward to Fall of 2023. This is the year my photography business started to pick up. I joined a gym called Burn Bootcamp in Kennesaw, where their community has showered my business in love and support!

May of 2024, we had our second son, there was no slowing down in my photography. I was about 6 weeks post partum when I shot my 1st wedding in Florida.

Recently my husband and I were talking about some childhood memories. I told him I needed to give my Papa Bob credit for planting a seed years ago giving me my first film camera, a Mitsuba Top2000.

5 years later of hard work and determination, not giving up on my dream to be able to capture so many memories. I am so beyond thankful to all my of clients who have supported my small business! I am so thankful for the family members who have supported me and encouraged me to keep growing and learning.

As much as I love doing weddings, I have devoted my photography to just capturing photos of families

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In everything we do in life there are always obstacles and challenges. Living out in Dallas was challenging trying to grow a business since I didn’t know anyone, gaining and losing a business partner, learning more about editing and my camera at times were challenging and managing a business with 2 kids can have its own set of challenges.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My full time job is to be a stay at home mom, that is where I spend most of my time; homeschooling the oldest, taking them on adventures, doing daily chores, teaching them how to be creative, strong and brave. Capturing moments have given me time to learn more about myself and what I love to do away from being a mom. I enjoy spending most of my time capturing anything to do with families: yearly family pictures, engagements, baby announcements, maternity, etc.

I am most proud of being able to set an example for my boys to do something that I love for work! It brings the best rewards.

Many of my clients have mentioned that having pictures taken can be uncomfortable and awkward, because it doesn’t feel normal. I believe that getting to know my clients and making the photoshoot fun and carefree sets me apart from others.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think that photography as a whole will stay the same in the next 5-10 years. I think that there will be changes such as film making a comeback, and possible changes from AI. I assume editing will be easier.

Pricing:

  • I like to have my prices affordable for families.
  • Seeing the joy the pictures bring to my clients is more important.
