Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Marro.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am the owner of Little Wonders. I design and create handcrafted customized fairy houses, birdhouses, and other home decor pieces that tell YOUR story. They are made from all-natural materials, mostly gathered by me while I hike or travel.
I live in Cumming, GA. I am married to a wonderful man whom I’ve known for over 38 years. Together we have two daughters, two dogs, and a horse. I am an architect, an interior designer, and a former design instructor. I stopped practicing 19 years ago to stay home with my girls.
Fairies were always an important part of our lives when my girls were little, as they grew, I knew I needed something to call my own and feed my creative soul.
Six years ago, after I dropped my oldest off at her high school for the first time, I came home, went for a hike, gathered some bark and twigs and built my first fairy house….that’s when Little Wonders was born.
Little Wonders is a place where the things that make me happy all come together: my love for architecture and design, my passion for the outdoors and hiking, my unwavering belief in fairies, the excitement that I feel when I sit down at the table to create, the beauty and wisdom that comes from listening to people’s stories, and the pure joy of sharing with others my creative abilities.
“Dream the largest of dreams, find joy in the littlest details.”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My biggest obstacle as my business has grown is maintaining a constant supply of natural materials available for my work. Figuring out when to gather things seasonally and how to preserve and store them throughout the year. Although I say this is a challenge, running out of certain things has opened my eyes to new things that become available as the seasons change. It’s all part of the creative process!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The process:
Tell me your story….I will bring it to life…it’s that simple! To begin a project, I want to know as much as possible about the story that my clients want to tell. Are there any meaningful words, quotes, poems or songs? Maybe they want to include names of special people, places, or even pets. Are they artists, athletes, scholars? Do they like to dance, play tennis, or bike? What about favorite colors or even favorite sounds? Whatever they can share that I might be able to incorporate into their custom piece to make it personal and tell their story, that is what I want to get started.
Then it’s a question of what type of piece they want? Is it a fairy house, a chapel, a wishing well, a birdhouse, or even a barn or doghouse? Maybe it’s more than one piece, maybe it’s a whole village! Is it a stand-alone piece, or do they like some additional functionality to it, like bookends? Would they like it to have lights? No problem!
“Tell me your story….I will bring it to life.”
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
All my pieces are custom-made, made to order, one-of-a-kind creations made with mostly all-natural materials I gather myself. I incorporate bark from many different trees, twigs, moss, acorns, pinecones, rocks, seashells, and whatever else I can find during my hikes. I am constantly looking for inspiration in nature so my palette is endless.
I also purchase things like mirror chips, color beads, metal charms, colored sea glass, fairy lights that is used to tell people’s stories.
My goal is to spread Joy….one Little Wonder at a time!
