Life & Work with Jester Beats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jester Beats.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA, and began making beats in high school just playing around, I did it every day and eventually got good enough to decide to take it seriously. I locked in with some local artists and friends I had that also did music and began hitting the studios every day, building my network, and just spending time creating, that’s when things really started to move. There is a lot that has gone on behind the scenes but that’s part of the journey and really makes the music what it is. The past year I’ve been putting a project together with a lot of different artists I have been working with. It’s about 12 songs and is really already done, I’m just waiting for the right time to drop it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle is really all that goes on behind the music, but that’s really what makes it. Making the music has always been the easy part for me but there’s a lot more to it than that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do production which involves making beats, recording the artist and helping them create the full song, and mixing/mastering. One thing I think is important for producers to learn at this time is how to do more than just make beats, a lot of people can do that, and even just being able to record can get someone in a lot of doors.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the past few years, a lot less money has been in the actual music revenue (streaming, album sales,) and there has been a shift towards other streams of artist revenue (merch, brand deals, etc.). It will be interesting to see how people get creative with that in the coming years.
