Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Charton.
Hi Jill, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love affair with fitness started as a multi-sport athlete. I loved the process of training, attending camps, and especially the team-building aspect that comes with organized sports. Of course, I didn’t understand just how far that passion would take me. Though I remained committed to my personal health and fitness throughout college and even after graduation, I pursued different avenues, working in corporate and marrying my college sweetheart. It wasn’t until my husband suffered a shoulder injury to where I was introduced to the world of Physical Therapy, which was ultimately a catalyst for the career I have today. After falling in love with the process of helping people recover physically and mentally, I began soaking in as much as I could from the field.
Marrying my strong appreciation of athletics, my competitive nature and my admiration for physical therapy, I began helping patients in physical therapy get back into the gym safely. I became a certified personal trainer and often worked extremely close with my clients’ entire health team. I realized each person is different with unique vulnerabilities, needs and desires. Helping people live healthier and happier lives was so fulfilling that I went on to continue doing it for 3 or 4 years before deciding that I need a brand and an online presence to reach as many people as possible of all ages and dispositions.
After my husband and I had our second child, my husband asked me, “If you had one extra hour out of your day, what would you do?” He was the one who suggested a concept that 4% is just 1 hour out of your day. This is where iFOUR originated: Imagine, Inform, Improve and Inspire. Building upon my own experience trying to not only bounce back physically after being blessed with two wonderful children but also remodeling my routine to create a sustainable, healthy lifestyle, I knew what process to take clients through to accomplish their goals and become the best versions of themselves. My goal with iFour is to encourage everyone to imagine what they could accomplish by setting aside just 4% of their day, 1 hour, to focus on their personal wellbeing.
Not only has my program worked for me, but I’m grateful to be able to have helped many others throughout the past ten years. I have gotten tremendous support from family and friends, that have played a key role in encouraging me in my development of the iFOUR training method. Today, through the iFOUR training program, I help others enrich their lives through 1-on-1 personal training, through the iFOUR Core app, and by giving some workout routines and form tips through my social media channels. I’ve also been blessed with the opportunity to work with Marvel and DC as a celebrity trainer on multiple occasions. I’m looking forward to continuing to help many different people in different places of their lives find a way to become happier, healthier versions of themselves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy. One of the most challenging learning curves for me, like so many others often experience, came when I felt like I had a lot on my plate to manage. At one point, while my husband was busy working as an air traffic controller, I was balancing managing a home renovation project from start to finish (construction and all), managing my own business and giving my absolute best to my clients, all while being a mother to our gorgeous one and a half-year-old daughter and being pregnant with another one on the way. As you can imagine, things felt a little crazy. It would’ve been so easy for me to say, “I don’t have the time. I don’t have the energy,” but instead I learned the true importance of carving out just 4% of my day, 1 hour, to take care of myself. Instead of constantly giving to everyone else and not focusing on what my own needs were as a wife, mom, trainer and friend, I have found that many people relate to these challenges and by working together, we could overcome them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Everyone has a “why” for why they do what they do and for me being a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) is about understanding people and their needs. I meet clients where they are and then help them progress to where they need to be in order to reach their goals. By providing step-by-step guidance and support, together, we build confidence and knowledge to empower clients to become the happiest and healthiest version of themselves.
The term “Fitness” is often generalized to fad diets and/or weight loss. To me, fitness is our own personal journey and it is part of our story! Fitness is finding what works for our bodies and creating daily habits that achieve long-term success. Every human body is different. That is why I help my clients discern and then progress through personalized steps necessary to help improve their daily lifestyle from both a physical and mental state.
As a wife, mother of two, and a CPT, I am passionate about connecting, creating and inspiring people of all ages to find their positive mindset and accomplish their goals.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I have been training clients for ten years and I have noticed a pattern with every single client. No matter what age (parent or not), gender, ethnicity, occupation, etc., training provides a tremendous benefit to one’s mental outlook and confidence. It goes way beyond physical fitness to improve mental wellbeing and quality of life. Creating a better mindset, that confidence often seeps into every avenue of a person’s life to create a lasting positive impact.
