Life & Work with Joche

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joche.

Hi Joche, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started creating lifestyle content back in MySpace days but initially started with YouTube back in tenth grade. Prior to my mother passing away, I liked to use it to show my outfits, share funny moments and sing covers. After she died, I started to share advice for those in my shoes and high schoolers that were younger than me. Eventually, my vlog became my online diary to help me through college and some of the most memorable moments in my life. Because I love content creation, writing and media. I decided to study Communications at Clayton State University. I graduated in four years with no debt, by the grace of God. These last seven years, I’ve been more serious about social media, more intentional, consistent and helpful to others by sharing my life, helping others with my lessons and making money online. Now, I consider myself the go-to girl for all things real.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a long road. Lots of trial and error and a few breaks in between. The great thing about being a content creator is continuously capturing moments that will you will be so glad to have years from now when things are different or the unexpected happens. The issue with lifestyle content (and anything when you care about it) is that when life gets tough and you are dealing with things personally, it can really affect your drive.

For instance, dealing with the heartbreak of grief (both failed relationships, friendships and true grief of losing my mom and sister) affected my drive to create.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a black, Christian, plus size, millennial, open-minded “real” lifestyle content creator who specializes in real talk, advice and honest reviews. I am also a great writer, resume whisperer and small YouTuber consultant. I am proud of the woman that I’ve become because I continuously beat the odds with the faith of a mustard seed and hard work, despite of what’s thrown at me. I am driven, committed, consistent and one to lift others up along the way. I am not a gatekeeper. I want to be successful and leave an impact.

My mother passed at 16, I sought scholarships to pay my way through college and DID so successfully in 4 years, Magna Cum Laude with no debt. I landed a role in my field and worked my way up to a wonderful opportunity that is fulfilling while allowing me to pour into others (while also having time to pursue my passion). I am happily married despite of finding “love” in the wrong places at a younger age. I have a beautiful son and want another child and my village is EVERYTHING. I own a home before 30. I beat depression. I’ve realized the true meaning of healthy lifestyle, with over forty lbs lost naturally with diet and exercise. I have reached over 5 million views across social media platforms and am monetized on YouTube for sharing my life & I am not DONE Yet. All before 30! God is so GOOD.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I can’t imagine social media 5-10 years from now. I imagine that in the next 2-4 years, online retail will take over brick and mortar businesses along with remote work and short content consumption by way of video format because we are already in route there.
