Life & Work with Johnny Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Martin.

Johnny Martin

Johnny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Johnny Martin, also known as @JohnnyMartinTheHairstylist. I started doing hair when I was 16. Over time I continued to perfect my craft and it became my passion/life. I remember when I was 16, my goal was to become a hairstylist.

Then when I was 21, I wanted to be a celebrity hairstylist but now I’m growing as a hair artist. Being more creative and just bringing hair to life. It’s so much talent and passion in me and it drives me to keep going and to never give up on my dreams.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a hairstylist isn’t for the weak. I had to work on being firm about my business, setting boundaries, and staying motivated. Sometimes that media could make you feel like you’re not doing enough but hold time you’re doing amazing and just got to keep going.

One minute you could be making a lot of money, and the next minute business could be slow, that’s why you have to promote and draw the audience in. Posting content and networking. By staying motivated and keeping your energy up, sometimes you have to take breaks for yourself, and sometimes you forget about yourself and self-care.

I had to stop and self-reflect on the big things I have done and let myself know I’m doing good JOHNNY keeps going.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
You have to take risks and put yourself out there. If it’s your passion or something you love to do, do it. Only you can stop you. I reach out to celebrities trying to work and when I am at events I network. Sending emails about wanting to be a hairstylist if they were looking for one, I’m here.

Passing out cards at hair stores and hashtagging on posts hoping somebody would see me. I love and work on my craft to where my work speaks for itself. I wasn’t going to stop and still to this day.
