Life & Work with Joi Leah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joi Leah.

Joi Leah

Hi Joi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started around 2015. Where I learned I had a gift & passion for radio & entertainment. From 2016-2018, I was a co-host on “The Conscious Party” show with Sean Robinson & friends On IBNX Radio in North Atlanta. In 2020, I started my own podcast, “Backstage with Joileah™, on the Podbean, Apple, iHeart Radio, Spotify, and multiple other platforms. I wanted to tell the stories of local celebrities, socialites, entrepreneurs, music executives, entertainers, comedians, chefs, influencers, and ALL people from ALL walks of life. I try to reach the community and help build our culture through knowledge, exposure, and promoting individuals who are making a difference in the community. My podcast also gives advice about everyday life & relationship issues. In 2020, I also started my own media production company JOILEAH ENT. This is so I could have my own outlet for media news and produce my own projects. I have had a few setbacks, but I always wanted to have my own talk/radio show. Having my own media company and being the boss keeps me focus and to aim high. And I continue to interview and talk to different people to make my dreams come true. Since I began, I have done multiple red-carpet events, location interviews, and virtual and in-studio interviews. I also am a party host, movie premiere host, and event emcee. I just have a gift helping people and keeping UP good energy and positive VIBES!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I am a late bloomer, I started in my 30’s. A lot of people have been in this industry for years. I put my goals to the side to raise my family, but I always had my dreams and goal. It took me some time to cultivate my talent and focus on my business goals. I wanted to concentrate on my passion and have my own talk show. Now, I am fixated on my media company and podcast. I just want to make IT HAPPEN. I have my own business growing, and I continue to work on my podcast show. I always knew I could do it, but the struggle is real. Normally, I don’t mind the struggles; it makes you stronger. Getting Backstage with Joileah to where it is now was NOT a smooth road, but it’s worth it!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, I have a growing podcast called Backstage with Joileah. My podcast show, Backstage with JOILEAH, is normally LIVE with insight on ALL things from today’s News, Hip Hop & Pop Culture, Entertainment, Music, Black Empowerment, Black Legacies, Today’s World Issues, Politics, Financial Improvement, Religion, and helping the Community. I also have my unique segment on my podcast called “ON MY LIST!”. I have been slacking, but this is where I break down the reason celebrities, socialites, and regular people end up ON MY infamous LIST! Plus, I give advice on how they can get off MY LIST! This is a vastly entertaining segment. I specialize in connecting with people and letting them tell their story however they would like to express themselves. I am most proud of how successful the show has gotten. I get a lot of views and feedback from all types of people. Everyone has a positive opinion about my show. I know there are many podcasts shows, but I focus on being positive. My show is not about drama or gossip. It is about empowering one another. There is utterly too much noise out there bringing people down, and I chose to bring peace, positivity, energy, & raise people up.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about Atlanta is the weather and the spirit of ATL. Atlanta has this aura about it that makes everyone want to come and stay here. It’s one of the best cities in the USA. The beautiful weather, the food, the southern hospitality, and nature of Atlanta is like no other city. I decided to raise my family here because I wanted them to have wonderful upbringing in this warm city. The black culture here is one of the best in the world as well. There is so much history is here in Atlanta, and you learn something new about the city all the time. Like the rappers say, FILA: Forever I Love ATLANTA!!! What I least like about Atlanta is the traffic. Atlanta traffic will have you want to cancel your plans & stay home! It’s the worst. Hopefully, the infrastructure of the city changes soon, and it gets better to get around this beautiful city.
