Life & Work with Jon Sky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Sky.

Jon Sky

Hi Jon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
So, I go by many titles depending on my setting. I am a traveling photographer, musician, and creative director. It all started in high school when I started getting into art. I was inspired by artists like Tyler the Creator, Kanye West, and Asap Rocky and was driven to create aesthetics that spoke to me. I started a clothing brand at the age of 15 by the name of Skyline Attire, where I would make graphic tees in my mother’s basement and sell them all over my high school. Through that, I learned the art of photography, and with the help of friends, I learned to create beautiful visuals that led me to New York at 17 to open up a fashion show in NYFW. Fast forward to after college me and my partner decided to start a new endeavor in fashion with a brand called Polychrome Attire. I am the creative director, and she is the curator and business manager. With Polychrome, I was able to flex my photography abilities and fine-tune my skills. Now I am a part of a production team at Makeshift Studios, where I also am opening up a music studio called The Sauna.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A big struggle I have had to face is self-doubt. I think sometimes I’m not good enough because I don’t have certain equipment or I don’t look a certain way. Once I realized you can make anything work with what you have I started to snap. I had to teach myself how to get the final product in unorthodox ways by just throwing myself into it instead of thinking about it. Once I stopped talking about what I wanted to do and just started doing it, things just fell into place.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known as a photographer and a musician. I specialize in studio photography where I can create different worlds and feelings through my photos. I also do a lot of behind-the-scenes photos for rappers in Philadelphia. The style of music I make is alternative hip-hop. I draw a lot of inspiration from people like Tyler the Creator, Asap Rocky, and Don Toliver. All of my songs are produced by one man by the name of Zay Gr8r we started our music journey in college and have been locked in ever since. Now we are co-owners of a studio in Philadelphia called The Sauna collaborating with fellow artists like 100percentChe, Sage, and Raphael.

I believe what sets me apart from my counterparts is that I am multi-talented visually and sonically. I create sounds to feel like scenery and I create photos that have feelings.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
