Life & Work with Jordan Williamson of West Midtown, Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Williamson.

Hi Jordan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m from Atlanta and have always been curious about other languages and cultures from a young age. I studied French in high school, dabbled in Mandarin during undergrad, and developed a strong interest in Spanish toward the end of college. A study abroad trip to Oaxaca, Mexico left a lasting impression—the people, the culture, and the food were incredibly inspiring. I returned to Oaxaca in 2020 to dive deeper into the language and explore the region’s rich heritage. I’ve also been capturing photos of people, places, and food since high school—those early travels and creative hobbies helped shape the foundation of my content creation journey.

My career in social media started out of a hobby really. I was already posting all my food on my Instagram. Why not make a space dedicated purely to that? And I think my past experience as a teacher gives me that desire to want to share what I’m learning with others—especially when it comes to interesting cultures, languages, and foods. I’ve had a lot of people tell me they’ve tried a new restaurant or a new dish because of something I posted, and I’ve had a lot of people tell me I’ve helped them learn a lot of Spanish or English because of something I posted. I’m so thankful to be able to use my skills and interests to help others, and have fun at the same time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some bumpy moments along the way. In the beginning, there was a lot to learn, and even now, there are times when I’m unsure if an idea will resonate until it’s out there. One of the biggest challenges has been learning to trust myself and my art. Self-doubt has crept in more than once, but I’ve grown so much since I started—both as a creator and as a person. I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by people who believe in me and encourage me. For that, I’m truly grateful. At the end of the day, I always try to come back to why I started in the first place: to share what I love, connect with others, and highlight the richness of the cultures, stories, and flavors I’m so passionate about.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
On the surface, I’m a content creator and internet foodie—but at its core, what I do is really about storytelling. I’ve had the chance to experience incredible food and learn about cultures beyond my own, but what excites me most is discovering the history and significance behind what’s on the plate or in the glass. I’ve met some amazing people in the food world who’ve shared their traditions and passions with me—and I love using my skills to help restaurants, chefs, and mixologists do the same: tell their stories through food and drink.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
When I first started seeing social media marketing and content creation as a potential career path, someone recommended the book The Lean Startup by Eric Ries to me. That book taught me so much about how to start small and how to continuously pivot and try new things until you learn what works well. I consume a lot of social media in my personal and professional life, and I take tidbits from all corners of the internet. From fashion to F1, to sports, to artists, to self-care, to book clubs, I’ve learned a lot about what catches people’s attention in all sorts of niches. And of course, as a content girlie, I wouldn’t be anywhere without my Lightroom, Canva, or Capcut apps.
