Life & Work with Jordyn Phillips of Atlanta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Phillips

Hi Jordyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started modeling when I was in high school. I was, at the time, a horse trainer and we were doing a photo shoot with our horses with a group of models. They were asking me for my help with, you know, putting their models together and getting things done and I ended up being in the pictures and posing for them and they were like, “Wow! you’re so good at this would you like to model?” Right after that I was moving out of the country and so the photographer told me that if I still wanted to start when I got back that we could work together. A year later, I came back and the rest was history.
After fully investing myself in modeling, one of my best friends became one of my biggest supporters. Every day, I push forward hoping I make her proud. Unfortunately, she’s no longer with us. Her passing is also what put me in to behavioral health, which is another field that i’m very passionate about. I love being able to model and do what I love, while also making the world a better place and knowing she’s cheering me on in the sky.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth wouldn’t necessarily be my first word. Modeling definitely took a lot of time, dedication, and sacrificing. Running around for model calls, making sure you’re growing and training yourself to be better, learning how to properly market yourself professionally in settings filled with people. Personally, I also had/have a small stage fright, so pushing through that was a challenge as well. However, the challenges never stopped me from doing something I’ve been so passionate about. You just learn how to make things works better.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do Runway modeling and Print work. I’m working on currently diversifying my photoshoots and getting myself out there more, but there’s something about doing fashion shows that became addicting. Infectious, even. I couldn’t help going to all the castings and all the shows, because I love being apart of them. From the atmosphere, to dressing in such creative outfits, to the connections you make? Unbeatable. I definitely can say what sets me apart will always be my attitude. The way I present myself in these spaces, the way I market, the way I grab everyone’s attention as soon as my foot hits the stage. I feel like i’m never in competition with anyone but myself, and I have so much fun doing it.

How do you think about happiness?
Animals and children, hands down. My current work field is in home therapy for kids on the autism spectrum, and I grew up on a ranch my entire life, and those are two of the things that have always come so naturally for me. I’ve always felt like i could understand kids and animals differently than anyone else, and they offer me a different sort of… comfort? serenity? I love being able to change their worlds while they simultaneously help make mine better as well. Also, kids remind us that growing up is just getting back to the you that you were in your adolescence, and I love that they keep me going everyday.
